Why does vst plug-ins sound different from tutorials?

Hi there

I've been having a problem with sylenth, absynth5 and other plug-ins in ableton 9 live. i've been trying to follow tutorials on youtube. but my sound does not sound as good. I have compared the init patch sound from some tutorials with the sound from my plug-ins, and it's different. the sound from the tutorial sounds more full.

I was wondering if my computerhardware or speakers could have something to do with it. But i don't think thats the reason, even though i use some small desktop speakers, i find it strange that they should be the problem, since they are able to play the nice sounding init patches from the tutorials.

my assumption may be wrong since i am a noob, so i would like to ask if anyone know if the hardware or my speakers could be the problem or could it be some settings in ableton?

I use a Macbook pro 13'inch, 2.3 GHz intel core i5, 4GB DDR3. OS X 10.8.3.

I appreciate any advice, thanks

Well if its a well crafted tutorial, they have probably mastered it in some ways, which will make it louder and sound a bit better.

what do you mean with: is different sound?, Does it just sound richer, fuller. Or is it a completely different sound?.

could you please upload the sound you have and post the link to the tutorial so we can hear the difference?

It's possible that they have limiter or some chain on master buss, probably hitting it good so you have that feel.

they could also have a reverb on their channel strip.

Hey thanks for the answers.

i've found the problem. i looked at a psy bass tutorial today and he set the notes on A3, while iv'e just always set the notes on D3 or D4 because i wanted to use that scale. i didn't think two keys that close to each other would make the bass sound that different. Man do i feel stupid

this question may be weird. but is it normal for psy basses to sound better in one key than another or would you say it shouldn't make a big difference if the bass is well made? i am trying to find a bass which i can use in a bassline progression

depends on the patch. some sound good in only a small range of notes, while other sound good over more than an octave.

if the bass is well made I found that changing notex within chordstructure isn't that much of a problem with sound

but yes especially the bass can sound very different when chaning notes           https://soundcloud.com/noordzee-laborant

Usually the bass sounds the same and your room doesn't between different notes in bass frequencies.
