I'm thinking of the arpeggio at 6:24 in this track

and at 6:20 in this track

If you listen on headphones it's there very clearly, but on a big soundsystem you can't hear it at all because it's overwhelmed by the bassline up close and far away it gets drowned out by people talking

Is this just an issue of the soundsystem being tuned wrong, or do these artists not listen to their music in a club/at a festival before they release it?

Personally I like having lots of little details like that, which you don't necessarily hear at first. It helps your track to reward repeated listenings if people hear something new each time, and can help to draw your attention inside the track.

Also, your perception of the prominence of a certain sound depends quite a lot on which aspects of the track you consider that sound to actually be. In your first example, I think that big fuzzy sound on top of the arpeggio is actually part of the same sound, and the whole thing is actually quite loud!          Mastering - http://mastering.OOOD.net :: www.is.gd/mastering
