I totally agree.
Times have changed, and you can't force people to buy your cds for them to support you.
The average partyguy nowadays is around 20 something years old? When they were kids, this is when the mp3 revolution began. Most of them never bought a cd in their entire lives.
And yes, the market is saturated (even myself being part of this saturation as an artist and label manager), but this competition is good for quality. Peope will try harder to stand out and be someone. Modern computing wouldn't have looked like this if it wasn't for the AMD vs Intel competition - so I guess this goes for music as well. Back in the 18th and 19th century music styles changed in half a century. People didn't have access to the technology they have today.
The invention of the electric guitar started (among other reasons) the wave of rock and roll. So the market was saturated with rock and roll bands, but hey - The Beatles were the result of this. So what's wrong in that? Point is - the industry should adjust, and most importantly - innovate. An artist to get big should not look at what everyone else is doing and copy, he should invent the next thing (whatever it is). And the next thing is obviously not CD sales.

it happen in some parties they offer you a cd with entrance price(launch of a va and a partie made for this for example) i find it nice iniative . to buy cd is dreaming, lot of ppl are broke with just the entrance and few drinks in a comercial partie .
about suporting artists and sales even names like madonna make most of the benefits with touring.saling music is dead ,it s over . |

I like the idea of a couple of CD`s being for sale at a party , but as said before it is up to the artist. If you really like the music you get your hands on it anyways, not a big deal, but still,it can be nice to buy it from the one behind the music .

successful artists win much money just with tourings .less sucessfull ones don t sale much and dont tour a lot ,it have always been like that ,in a way sales were just helping the guys that were making already lot of money.it s always the same , the guys that have money win even more but for the others it dont change much.there is no more sales but it change almost nothing for a big part of this scene, it s like ppl these day think too much to money , this scene got already fucked up by guys thinking too much too money, it s not good . |

To sell or not to sell it doesnt really matter...
If u do something from ur deep heart , if u put extra efforts studing, investigating searching and with enough humbelness u will find the right path. Cause the world is there for you waiting to hear ur new tune ( if u want it to be like that) .
You create your own present and your own reality, no the opossite.
money and fame plus acceptation and recognition are just ghosts in the head.
The freedom of the mind is not outside.

To me this subject is about people wanting to support artists or not or just keep setting up demands for the artists to apply to.
Support your artist instead of keep demanding changes from the artists.

I agree with you here (in case I seemed confusing, I wasn't arguing against that at all earlier so I hope you didn't take it the wrong way)

Patently this seems not true from an empirical perspective.
One contributes to/partcipate in the reality that is already there, and is bound by its "initial state conditions" (essentially karma), but one is also free to attempt to change it to however one imagines, or not.
In several threads I have read people who have seemingly misquoted and taken out of context things written and said by people such as Pierre Teilhard de Chardin.
It is imho a very "dangerous philosophy" or attractive fallacy, and one whose fascination I have fallen for on occasion as I have struggled to understand my experience of the universe.
Equally dangerous and insidious is this idea that if one is "true to oneself" or some other such psycho-babble nonsense then it will happen for oneself.
Again this seeems patently not true, but as a notion I can see its appeal, in the same way some people feel the need to create mystical father-saviour figure on the periphery of their consciousness.

When I am in a high state, the notion of "selling shit" seems wrong and unbecoming to my divine nature. That and I don't want to spoil someone else's trip, with me popping up like an advert in their reality. Though its been a few years since i've gigged, so who knows!
Sucks on a financial level though.

Well i usually have some with me, sometimes u sell , sometimes not. But if you sell it's a good feeling to have when somebody comes directly to you and is asking for it.

CDs use quite a bit of raw material to produce. quite a bit of plastic, paper, etc...think about the cd itself, the jewel case, the outer rapping, the booklet, and all the ink used. not to mention the energy required to burn/write the cd's. on top of that a physical cd must be transported to the place of purchase by consumers. to cancel all these energy consuming effects, buy digital downloads |
|
now about this...
i dont think its the psytrance industry with so few prints that will be dangerous ecologically heh.
+ dont u use a computer for digital downloads? or a ipod? no energies consummed to make all that? come on...
anyway...
and if u wanna make a present? u print a card with a link?
i'm not against digital downloads at all, there are very useful, but dont blame the CD so much !

No the small amount of psytrance CDs will have small effect on climate.
I am using a computer and the argument behind digital downloads is that most people use a computer for their day to day tasks anyway, hence you are spending energy you would use anyhow.
Like I said, if we all decided to stop buying CDs we would not save the world. My argument is that its just 1s and 0s and my favourite CDs I throw on itunes and listen through the computer. I just keep the original CDs in their cases in the CD cabinets, collecting dust.
The CD is nothing special as a medium, its not vynil, I mean DAT tapes are far more treasured than CDs (even if the 48khz tunes were recorded of a 44.1khz original ) and an awful lot of people, just made their own compilations of DAT tapes back in the day. The DAT tape case with the psy theme, was treasured. That was 1s and 0s as well, although some artists were recording out of their analog mixing desks in ADAT and DAT players, at 48khz. So in that, arguably, insgnificant aspect, DAT were 1s and 0s, just more of them than the 1s and 0s on CDs. And the serial access ponted back to cassettes and old tape mixes, tracklists that was the thing when I was young.
Just burn CDs and hand them to people (if your label is ok with it), and simply write the tunes at the back by your self.
More immediate, more personal, less expensive and, imo, cooler if you have a custom CD case
Peace out.

Patently this seems not true from an empirical perspective.
* What is true? Tell me the truth and I will give you my house.
One contributes to/participate in the reality that is already there, and is bound by its "initial state conditions" (essentially karma), but one is also free to attempt to change it to however one imagines, or not.
* That’s right; we are free to attempt to change it.

Again this seeems patently not true, but as a notion I can see its appeal, in the same way some people feel the need to create mystical father-saviour figure on the periphery of their consciousness.
* I only know Pierre Cardin the fashion designer, but anyway I rather write and read the book of my life. And in this book my "initial state conditions” are based in what I believe will help in my path to reach what I want, “Equally dangerous and insidious is this idea” as any intangible idea, i mean just just beleave in yourself!

When I am in a high state, the notion of "selling shit" seems wrong and unbecoming to my divine nature.
* Now we are getting into the vibe!
That and I don't want to spoil someone else's trip, with me popping up like an advert in their reality.
* Exactly, who needs this? Enough advertisements, if u are good u are good and this is ur best advertisement.
Though its been a few years since i've gigged, so who knows!
* Maybe you didn’t commit your self to your one true self.
Sucks on a financial level though.
* To believe that art will pay ur bills, is like to believe that money will make u happy.

The truth is....
....that we are all gOd-like beings, and should be treated and loved thus.. The hard part is living/realising it.
( You can pop the keys in the post. )

As an artist whose doing his "thang" in HD, I can't afford a blank blu-ray disk, let alone a blu-ray burner, which makes it hard to give away copies of my work at parties. I used to give away VCDs and DVDs, but it seems redundant when you can see it in better quality at your own leisure on YouTube. Plus it ended up costing me quite a bit over the years, as those hundreds of disks do add up.

Meaning?
|
|
Meaning that if they have a cd player in their car, then they just put it inside and it works.
But if they want to play it on a pc, it gets complicated. Playing files just easier. And you get the bonus of tagging and organizing in folders. So yes, you can rip the cd to your HD (which is what I do for example) but that's only because I know how. I doubt that most people know how to do it.
