Like 90% of the times i've made a new track and people comment it i always get like "this takes me back" or "oldschool psytrance" and stuff like that. I don't use much old equipment, but still the results often endsup with a oldschool feeling. Wich imo ain't a bad thing becouse personaly i dig the "old" sounds better.
I think when one makes Psychedelic trance without any cheesy melodies or regular fabric presets with standard arrangements formulas people tend to think it's oldschool trance.

cheers & keep it oldschool!

i had the same props with my sound and i guess there some facts:

1) don't play melodies! it's really oldschool! nice but old. current psytrance plays a lot with small stabs/clicks/fill ins ... for example see this great tutorial : http://forum.isratrance.com/fill-in-the-gaps-new-tutorial/
very modern and great psy-stuff imho!
2) use more fm synthesis. anaolog is nice but old
3) play a lot more with drums. percussion is THE key to modern psytrance
4) use the stereo-field. place the sounds in the stereo field and let them move around!

your bassline is the first problem if you want to sound less oldschool ! the lead on top in the begining too, that kind of ryhtm/groove remind me the goa days .

but what make it really oldschool to me is how you balanced the tune, maybe try to a/b to a recent tune you like the sound when you begin your next one, to balance it the same

ok so the bassline i just dont know what I can do to make it sound more "new" what do you suggest

and yeah I am really starting to notice the leads...spewing out a continuos melody and the lead I got sound really oldschool

what I dont understand is what do you mean about balancing the tune? like the volumes or stereo spectrum or the whole thing?

thanks Pom and everyone else too

to get the proper kick and bass combo u have to get decent monitors with at least 8' bass woofer or get a sub. do something that will make u hear what's wrong, not think about it.

basically the track is too generic sounding. thats pretty much it.

your percussion needs alot of work and detail.
make a groove, bounce it down to audio, chop it up, reverse this and that, make use of the stereofield, filter it etc etc. some psilocybian dude made an experimental percussion tutorial not long ago, you should be able to find it here somewhere. check it out, should give you an idea.

when it comes to melodies and leads, picking a detuned saw-wave with a phaser effect on it and simply writing a midi track for it just wont do it anymore, not if you want to sound 'modern' anyway.
you'll have to go for a more advanced approach i guess, and its all about experimenting.
its also not just about the single lead itself, its how you layer and mix each part. thats a huge factor.
having send fx on your tracks is great too, it gives you a wide vereity of psychedelic sounds and it also helps keeping the sounds coherent.
and again, bouncing down to audio is real useful if you feel like experimenting.

i guess this goes for pretty much every element in a track. dont get me wrong tho, i love old stuff, but if you want to sound modern you'll have to make your work a little more complex, and it is indeed more hassle.

hope i made sense, gl.

This sounds like the music i used to make in Reason
The melodies were pretty pleasant

But wtf is up with that Flanged Noise sweep going on and off all the time

Also, the way you roll your kicks reminds me of the buildups from uplifting goa

But Uplifting goa have heavy sine-kickdrums, (that btw steal the whole track. )            http://soundcloud.com/li-fe

I said I like it dirty, not muddy.

are you sure that this is a modern psytrance attribute?
