i got Sennheiser HD-280's like 2 weeks ago and they sound awesome just not so loud...ive been using them to produce ever since..today i plugged in my earbud 20 buck skullcandies to listen to a mix and they sounded a lot better than the Sennheriser's?Any reason? Is it because they are smaller and earbud type?           www.soundcloud.com/kabbalisticvillage

Bare in mind that the SkullCandies flutter the sound a lot. I have no experience from the 280, but I love my HD 25s for DJing, not for mixing.
Generally "pro" headphones have a higher impedance than "consumer/hi-fi" headphones, which is why they don't go so loud.

Peace out.

Its not good or bad, its a matter of studio gear and their relevant impedances.

Peace out.

could be your soundcard output impedance like dh said that can t drive them properly , have you tried on some other headphone output if you have some.

some headphones need more power output than a souncard can provide, a separate headphone amp will do the trick.

My AKG K-240 are 600ohms, and my Sony MDR-CD780 is 32 ohm

So you do the math, hehe well of course the AKG needs more power to drive, But they sound excellent. The Sony also sound very good.

I dont like Earbuds, it feels strange to have something in the ear like that, if i use earbuds they need to be a little bigger and not those you insert inside the ear-canal.

I think you should check the Ohm, there is a 64ohm and a 300ohm version.

and read the review on them, it actually say they are supposed to be flat in their respons, Unlike my Sony which are HIFI headphones, and probably your SkullCandies are also HIFI... It can mean that the freq curve is altered, Like the Yamaha NS10 hifi speakers, which is said to have a Smiley curve.

So you probably did a good investment.

my advice for bass is to not use headphones!
every other thing is nice to mix with headphones, but not the bass/kick (at least for me).

cheers           www.soundcloud.com/orgytime

agreed, though when the room is shit sometimes creating on headphones you know will work much better. Lets say you have a bad setup, Monitors Standing on table, reinforcing the resonance to the table, maybe also close to the wall, adding up bass freq by 3dB, maybe also your are in a corner, adding more there, this way you dont have a clue how your bass is sounding, so checking in some headphones you know well might tell you a thing or two, but of course i mix my bass on monitors, but there are factors that can make it untrusted.

well some skullcandies boost the bass channels, the sound might not be so good on some real studio gear. so you could say the the skullcandies "lie" which is not good when producing stuff, you usually wanna make music that sounds about the same on any speakers.

I had the same problem when I made music with my LG home theater speakers, the bass kicks and bass lines sounded nice but with my headphones they were shit. Now I got a pair of Behringer studio monitor speakers and they sound pretty much the same as my headphones, it's easier to make the music sound good with these, when it'll play out as nicely on any sound system.

try fucking with EQ with the sennheisers on... you might find that it's just a matter of differing freq. response
