Why do artists not sell their CDs at parties?

Why do artists not sell their CDs at parties? Would it be unprofessional if they did? Would it be too much of a head-ache for them? It is hard sometimes to find psytrance CDs here in the US and I think it would be great if an artist brought some CDs to sell when they came to play. What does everyone else think?           my cat is deathly afraid of aluminum foil

I fully agree with Localsky. I think it is good if the artist brings their music to sell at a party...but here, I want to emphasize that only the artist or only the promoter with artist's permission. I think it is helpful to promote themselves. For example, Wizzy Noise came to LA(psytribe party) right before "Elecktro Theater" released...and we could buy their album and some candyflip's compilations at middle of the desert where party was going on. After the party, many trancers were going back their home with listening brandnew wizzy's groove. I thought that was cool. Also when I was in Japan, I saw some promoter selling the artists's album at the party. We could ask the artist or the promoter. This is my thought.
Tell me what you listen, and I'll tell you what you are.

In my experience the artist will not actually have many of their cds on them. Usually they only get sent a few for promotion from their label and then the rest is in the label hands. If the artist wants cds to sell when they play, chances are they will have to buy them upfront off the label which is not always possible.

Also, this way they get a 300% profit margin on the sold cd's ... no distribution / shop profit margins / ...

much bigger support to the artists, and possibly even cheaper cd's for the buyers!           www.psytracks.com :: Brand new website for sharing your psytracks with the world. Get a free 250Mb Artist profile, Blog and events calender!
