I grew up in Durham NC where I never heard any psytrance an most electronic music that was heard was pure cheeeze, so most the energy of the area is that most people dismiss electronic music as not very good. I was into hip hop growing up because I think the drum machines and sampling, progressive technology as opposed to rock, and went up to new york to study music drawn mostly by the sounds of wu-tang and the personality of the rza. After learning how to produce hip hop on computer I found a flyer for an astral projection show in chinatown put on by tsunami. I was interested in it because I was interested in the phenomena of astral projection and had studied a lot about out of body experiences. I went and the show was one of the first parties I had ever gone to where I actually felt like dancing to the music. It was like a spell had been lifted, and I never knew electronic music could be so good and so right on. The deco flouro aliens and mushrooms as well as the smell of nag champa made it all completely awesome. Then Astral Projection came on and their sound was so good, genius production. So I got into psytrance after that, with a few alladin project parties in brooklyn, reality engine vibrasphere amazement, and then back in NC with the asheville events and Goa Gil.
I think I really mostly love the sound of 2003-2006 or so morning sounds of when I first discovered it and have been trailing a little in my production, mostly wonder why it seems like a music only I can hear, when I live where I live. I think it's right someone said a party where people are dancing is better than a party where people are standing around watching. I try to bring this energy to where I am.

Iwas a fan of electronic music since my youngest age. At first it was daft punk. I started to listen to underground webradios when i was a teenager and then on a techno forum i discovered the track "talamasca - mutation" . I loved it immediately. Then a bit later i discovered a video of "talamasca and eskimo - to be continued". At first I found that strange. But i listened and listened again and the track was taking me more and more in its magic. I finally began to listen to it non stop. But i didn't knew yet i was starting to be addicted to psytrance. What happened next was even more strange. I found the psy channel on di.fm and started to listen to it. At first i thought "what is this shit ? it's noise". But little by little i started to feel good listening to this strange shit. The magic was taking me. Some weeks later i was only listening to psytrance and tripping like hell alone in my room. I had crazy experiences, dancing imaginating myself surrounded by giant insects dancing and talking to me, and a giant elephant at the horizon telling weird things.
And years lated im the psyfan i am and even amateur producer

I will remember that festival my entire life. There is only 1 night of music, but in the morning, awakening slowly from our acid-soaked haze, I remember saying to my sister, "how in the FUCK do we explain this to 'normal' people?" It was just out of this world. Somehow, I found a lot of beauty in a few thousand people tripping their nuts off deep in the forest - it was like recess for adults, a playground for the infinite amusement of mind and body.

I feel you brother.

Thank you all for posting your experiences... as for me, I started listening to IM, Skazi and stuff like Astral Projection as a friend from school had that on her cdplayer all day... I liked the music a lot.

Those days I had been in search for lsd but i really thought that was something from the 60's that wasn't going on much but once i went to my first party dropped for the fist time and understood the whole psy-playground thing i was hooked.

I love the abstract mind bending sounds to this day, good uplifting melodies, dark and bright sounds and the overall powerful energy of psy... i began listening to very easy to digest tunes then slowly went to a more complex and experimental stage.

My music interests have shifted a lot since I produce, because now that i know i like to listen to really genius production-wise music, you know the stuff that really gives evolutionary edge to all kinds of electronica but still enjoy simplicity and a good ohmpa bass.

Thanks again, it was nice to read you all.

Long life to psytrance.
