+1 for Gaian Mind. Fucking special. I loved the crazy storms that always seemed to happen during the peak of that festival.

One especially fun moment was taking cover under a rain tarp with some friends as one of the storms rolled through, and I missed something that a friend said, so I asked "what..is...big?"

then BOOM

HUGE LIGHTNING STRIKE at that exact moment, could smell the ozone burning it was so close.

Thanks for the answer to my question Universe.           If you want to make an apple pie from scratch...you must first invent the universe

Nope, neither me nor any of the people I was with got sick. Then again, we didn't drink any of their water or drink any of their tea. I was all confused when they switched locations the next year and couldn't POSSIBLY understand why. Then everyone's like oh yeah I almost died after that party on a daily basis for 2 weeks.

Sucks.

Stomping it out in the rain is fucking awesome. I remember a particularly lysergic moment when I was spinning two different sets of poi and dancing around like a crazy, all I could think of was the extremely chaotic nature of my surroundings, like all the rules were gone and it was just pure chaos. I probably looked like a psychotic madman flailing around in the rain getting soaked.

Ahhh, psytrance.

I discovered astral projection, deviant electronics, masada and other trance artists on the old mp3.com.
thats was my first contact with psy sound
then after some local parties and my first big festival was in 2002.

my wife and i both got wicked sick. i managed to dance it out, but i had some nasty have-to-run-to-bathroom moments.
she wanted to lay down, and had a head full of yaknow, so when i came back to check on her, she was asleep in a vomit filled tent....

not the best way to end a great night....

Well when i was in high school in the previous century, MTV had this show on at 1am on Mondays called Amp. It was all electronic videos and they were (at first) mixed like a dj set, which made it very hypnotic especially to my young mind which wasnt used to being up so late, especially on school nights. Well, once in a while they'd play Prana, Juno Reactor, Man With No Name (I think it was), Eat Static, and stuff, that always stuck out in my ears. Never really knew what it was called just that it was cool.

Later on after getting into Impulse tracker and getting tunes for it, I kept seeing 'goa' as the style, and the goa mods tended to be much more complex and (duh) trippy than the others, and struck the same chord as the videos on Amp. But things intervened in my life that kept me from getting too hard into it....

Fast forward a few years to 2001 when I was living in Honolulu, married to HS sweety (not anymore), working a data entry job that allowed me internet access and to listen to music on headphones. For some reason I searched for 'goa web radio' and came up with Philosomatika, which was what I listened to entirely after that, blew my mind, and reinvigorated my interest in psychedelic dance music.

It wasnt til late 03 that I really decided to get educated about the stuff, and then in 04 started going to local EDM parties as often as I could, and would hear psytrance now and then. Then I went to a purely-psytrance party in town (lol it was 'psytrance themed' and thrown by a major local mainstream promotion crew, and called Cities of the Future lolololol) and knew I had to find more trance-only parties.

Then in 05 my whole family in teh US went to Europe to visit our relations in Slovenia for 2 weeks then bum around for 2 more. Passport issues caused me to miss the Slovenia visit, but for 2 weeks I traveled with my metalhead brother around Germany with a side trip into Amsterdam with Eurail passes. It so happened that we would be in Germany when the Tshitraka Project festy was going on, and I then experienced my first real trance party, the madness of the German trance scene, the hospitality of some nice Berliners we met in Ludwigslust and camped/tended their absinthe bar with (right at the main stage ), and... And it was great. I discovered there how awesome Antix is as well as how soothing when tired as hell and laying in the tent at 7am. That was the first of more than a few major acts, that I really love, that I slept thru.

Been going to as many California trance parties as I can afford, sadly i havent been to one since Gemini 07... But Ive got my collection, mixing ability, and my own production to keep me rocking on my own. And trying to get a local trance dance scene started, so far, not so great but theres potential....           .

the partys and the beautifull butterflys(psychogirls) got me stuck into it...

ANNND psychedelic is definetly the most nature-connected scene, i think..

I would be very interested to hear what that stuff from 87 sounds like. To me the earliest goa trance stuff is super early Total Eclipse and Slinky Wizard type stuff - but I still have lots of psy history to learn.

I have a few tapes (casettes left from that time, just a matter of digging it out and with it the ol tape player and record it into my soundcard, don't expect "clean" soundquality, in those days it did not exist... and it was quite different from what it is today...           Upavas - Here And Now (Sangoma Rec.) new EP out Oct.29th, get it here:

Ok, so I am honest.
Back in 1998 I came from rave/trance and pills...someone told me there was a Goaparty in my town and that one could get acid there
Luckily the party was just one road down from my home...we went there, dropped a bit..and well...it was awesome

I hate to admit that drugs brought me to this music(serving clishees here^^), but meh. Sooner or later I would have discovered the music anyways, and the drugs I would have taken anyway too, so it just was a good way....

After visiting the first festivals and meeting people there, my life really started to change tho..lots of good influences and views...its still what makes me go there.

Music back then: Infected!!! oh and cosmosis, astral projection...all the classics
