i already was into electronic music for some time when i stumbled upon the first goa-head compilation in a small record store in my town. i liked the artwork of the cover, so i started to listen and was totally intrigued by the sound. i had to buy it immediately and listened to no other music for weeks.
after some time i asked one of the salesman - who was an acid producer at that time - if he had more music like this, and he gave a tan-trance compilation to me and started to tell funny stories about rave and occasional goa-parties of those days.

a couple of years later we got an internet connection and i started to download all goa and trance i could find, what was not easy and not a lot back then. again some years later i attended my first goa party and was totally hooked. i can't remember if it was the music, the atmosphere, the drugs or all together, but this party transmitted everything i felt and dreamed when i listened to the goa-head cds years before. a new chapter of my life started on that day.

why? this music just tells stories and makes me fly like no other.

@padmapani: this rainy festival sounds a lot like the sonnenklang a couple of years ago..

I was in college, studying Music Practice & Technology.

It was my first experience with music tech, I'd never even used a DAW before, and with every lesson I had, I wanted to do and learn more, and more.

I was chatting with a friend of my (then) girlfriends, who I knew was into making music with his PC, and he invited me round, gave me a copy of Acid Pro 4, and like 20GB of psytrance.

I didn't really listen to it until I went back to his a week later, and he'd asked me what I thought. I said "I dunno, I didn't really listen to it". He was shocked, and promptly put on "Battle of the Mind" by Save the Robot.

We didnt really do anything else that day, I just demanded to listen to more and more psytrance.

I then met lots of new people and went to lots of parties with them, and here I am today.

I was in Goa, 25 years ago and they played this ...well... you know... anyway, I decided to take some of this sound home and played it to my friends, this was in 87, everyone went, oh noo, this is terrible, when I played some of them the exact tape again 2 years later the same people went, wow, this is amazing, what is this...

and so the story continues, to this day...           Upavas - Here And Now (Sangoma Rec.) new EP out Oct.29th, get it here:

Was 18. Someone said there was a party where some dude was gonna spin fire. I was like hm, idk what the fuck that is, but it sounds cool lets go.

Show up, dude is playing the most amazing music I had ever heard - I had no clue wtf it was. He was also spinning poi. The next day I showed up to his house, grabbed 30 gigs of music, got a couple websites for poi instruction.

~half a year to a year later, went to Gaian Mind summer festival and dropped for my first time. Life has never been the same since.

Sonic inspiration it those early days in particular? Twisted Records and Infected Mushroom.

Much has changed, but it's still what I want to do.

For what its worth, production changed my entire mindset around psychedelic trance, and becoming a party organizer did as well. I highly, highly recomend getting into both if you are interested in psytrance, it makes you love it so much more but for different and more varied reasons.

At the beginning of the summer of 1994, went to my first outdoor psy-trance party (then it was called goa-trance). It was instant love from then on.
It was all goa trance back. I still listen to goa trance tunes for inspiration, although the music I hear the most and make, is far from it.
The sounds that made me fall in love where all the deep, ripping riffs, atmospheres, and trippy FX mainly stuff from the UK, german, and scando scene. Them guys had a way of making music that was not trying too hard to be something. It was just relentless, and deep as fuck.

Peace out.

I used to be a metalhead/guitar shredder and i was very against trance. Then i moved to Israel and there's a group of guys who go around Israel in vans blasting trance to make people happy and dance.Thats the first time i heard trance but not very into it.Then two friends came to israel and they introduced me to all the good stuff and gradually i got into it hardcore and decided after awhile to make it.I love it now but still listen to Metal and blues and whatever else sounds good.           www.soundcloud.com/kabbalisticvillage

I was young and had just started experimenting with drugs.
I did not really like the music at this time, thought it was too fast, but some friends listened to it.

Then one day when we were extremely high and had loaded up a stock of laughing gas. i had never tried n2O before so i was in for an experience.
My brother put on 1200 micrograms track ayahuasca, and i inhaled the sweet creamy gas.
It sent me out on a 2 minutes journey into eternity.

The music was so deep, so mystical. I could not believe how anyone could create this kind of music.
It was like taking a step into a fairy tale book.

After that i was hooked, and since then the psy have been a big part in my life.
The mysticism is almost gone tho, but i still love it.

I would be very interested to hear what that stuff from 87 sounds like. To me the earliest goa trance stuff is super early Total Eclipse and Slinky Wizard type stuff - but I still have lots of psy history to learn.            If you want to make an apple pie from scratch...you must first invent the universe

I had been djing hard trance for just a few months before my first psytrance experience at the 2007 earthdance midwest festival. I had tons and tons of fun listening to the music, dancing and meeting the wonderful people who were there. Met some local promoters at that festival and started helping out with shows soon after.

All of that is the same reason I'm still here

heard an astral projection song when i was a lil etard, really loved it more than all that bullshit rave sounds.
got more into full on after i got arrested for dealing, then went on a drum and bass kick. saw shapestatic in blacksburg, and totally loved it, decided psytrance was the best, went to gaian mind and had the lightning break a branch in the center the main floor right during a massive peak of the rastaliens live set.

then went to equinox, second night there, had an out of body experience, and became a pillar of light.......

things have never been the same since.....
