This is mostly why I asked this question. It seems to me like there are many artists that will add 2 minutes of strange noises at the beggining or end of the song just to make it seven minutes. |

erm
take some decent mushrooms and go to a forest party, u might notice that the 2 minutes of strange noises are actually fucking mindblowing in that state, and were added to the music for an extremely good reason

I think you can get away with a lot more experimentation on an artist album compared to a compilation. On a comp you really have to go with the formula.... of course there are exceptions, but you are gonna find it hard to get your 3 minute track released, or 20 minute track. Well in progressive you _sometimes_ get up to 10 minutes.....
On compilations most tracks seem to have the usual idea : intro, funny riff, another funny riff maybe , beakdown, something else e.g. melody, outro. hehe well maybe not quite but nearly:)
It's a bit of a shame but the reason is that most compilations are trying to be full of 'dancefloor killers' and I think the above formula centred on the breakdown is what most DJs like to play at the moment...

On our forthcoming album there are 2 trax 10 minutes long and one 14 minutes long that actually was edited and its full length was 18 minutes. It's just as much as u can tell in one track - on the contrary there are tracks of 7 minutes
I agree with jon that there are more possibilities to play with track length on an album then on a compilation.
In any case, at least for me.. I never add sounds in the beginning or the end to reach certain amount of minutes.. it sounds quite weird for me to do. Usually I do need some intro and I like make long intro for a track, this is my way to look at it. But there are many artists especially in proggy minimal that start with kik bass.

I think one of my favourite long tunes is the tune 'future trippy garden' by planet ben.. that is like 20 minutes or something. Incredible journey..... on the first planet ben album.

Yeh, i REALLY dont understand the rush! why be impatient for the beats? hehe. the IDEA of an intro is to LOWER the SENSES before RAISING them!!
and Solipt1c... I agree COMPLETELY!
I once heard this track where everything stopped, and the MOST AMAZING sound was there all by itself, but i didnt know what it was cause i was ina funny state;) only later listening back i realised it was a recording of someone using STICKY TAPE!
point being even superglues spew changing in pitch will be trippy when your trippin

I really like full power that's why I live for the last 2 or 3 minutes of the tracks (climax) i'm making a dj set with only that, last 2 minutes, and it's going to blow my mind.
Am i wrong, crazy or .....? Opinions please.

You lost your mind man????
What about the dynamics in the set?
Why would you want to leave most of the artist's hard work outside?
I Think that the powerful last 2 minutes of the track that you love so much wouldn't sound as powerful without the all story before.
Psy trance is not about being 100% powerfull level all the time , it have to go up and down within it's track (a bit like a wave).
I also don't think the audience could not take it more then a few tracks in a row.
Only IMHO.

You're right maybe i exaggerate, of course not the whole set is last 2 minutes, there are a lot of tracks with great intros and a lot of tracks that are very good from beggining to end but there are also a lot that for me only last 2 min. save them. I think (and not to bother the artists) that the last 2 rock, maybe someone could recomend me some artists that have the power of, let's see: last part of the exaile track on tweekers, Skazi vs Talamasca (gentelman let's get started) on who touched my bassline, cpu track 4 Down the stairs etc. Maybe i'm crazy but after i knew Pink Floyd i thought that music will never be the same, and then BOOM!!! those last 2 minutes changed my life.
