add some more notes in your bassline and add a closed hat on every 16th, that's when things start to sound much faster. with a regular oomph bassline and open hat only it sounds slow, of course.           http://myspace.com/voxproject

percursion makes the magic even a track at 142 somethimes seems to be at 146 147 so add shorter notes on bassline and more full onish time , and on the percursion as well and then u will say , maybe i need to slow down a bit the bpm           "HIGH PULSE" AKA FUSION OF DARKPSY PROJECTS

maybe it's the percussion that make this sound faster, you're right... hats, congas and stuff)

the basslines are mostly pretty crowded with 2/3 notes between 2 kicks.

thanks for the tips

exactly right. Percussion is what gives the beat, its energy. Ears alone will quickly get desensitized to fast bpm's so you need to put intelligent percussion in to keep your ears amused. Along with the advice already mentioned, try to put in offtimed snares into the mix. A good trick is putting a secondary snare exactly 1/16th note Before the main snare. Gives it a great tribal rhythm and tons of nrg. Also varying patterns of closed-hats on some of the inbetween notes of hi hats.

@tsabeat i've been checking those yesterday and it really helps to change the dinamics of the bassline. in the compressor and in the not lenght and stuff like that...

hi there joao

148 ain´t slow but i kinda know what you mean. although is the whole track that makes it fast or slow. i remember for example lobic bomb tracks that have actually high bpm around 147-151 and all of the songs seem slow. i also think drums agressivity makes most of the difference.

hehe i have a friend that now only produces at 156 bpms, he says it´s the perfect bpm when the kick and baseline fit just perfectly, and hearing his songs , although it is dark trance "fritadeira" noone says that it is 156 bpm, his tracks look like 147/148

percursion is the rhythm of the track... get a nice full on percursion and you won't need more than 145 bpm (which is the "standard").
