ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha, quoting brett:
"It's like... if someone records a sample of someone visciously flogging a bag of stale Fritos with a piece of rusty barbed wire, in their SF crash pad.. "
stale fritos!!
you make me laugh so much, you have the greatest descriptions of stuff it is so funny... thanks again for the invention of the "trauma trance" term, give me your addy and i'll send you a promo of the new comp... we named it in your honor and you might even like some of the tracks, mwah ha ha
but seriously... someone was just asking for people's favorite US dark/twisted trance artists, why does this have to turn into a debate dark vs light again... aren't people bored with that yet?? get over it... move on... stop whining and fucking dance!!!!!!!
yeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee haaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaw

BTW

Im NOT lookifing for the US artist who has the most screams or dogs barking viscously on his or her tracks. Im looking for the intelligent US artist who makes a dark sound. NOT a scary church bells in the background artist just a good dark artist

Do not help to get rid of my past lives wrath and rage And Brett, he is just the Torquemada of trance. And I thought of him differently, but he is cruzading to save the psychedelic experience I think mine is fine thank you.

And If you want to know about artists... You have them all speaking here David. Fractal Cowboys, Dyalien, Quasar, Ghreg on Earth, Mubali, Vector Selector, Yohimbe...

BOM!

Well again Im sorry if you were offeneded but Im not going to hear 4:00 min of a track on saiko and psyshop and "Get IT". And I'll have plenty of time to get to know everyone personally. I just wanted a fans perspective, thats all. Im also not going to spend money and buy 16 compilations just to get an idea of who we want to book sooooooo. Its bad enough as it is that I dont own any of thier tracks. I was trying to get an honest opinion from people who do. if your still mad at me.... I LOVE YOU!

But while were on the topic of talking straight to the artists

which of you live in California?

lmfao. this thread is hilarious. i should come here more often...

i guess if i had one comment it'd be that i think there's a lack of progression in the music at some parties. too often i agree with BfromT in that, it's a poundathon all the time, rather than just at the right times.

but whatever, wait a few more years and the next thing will be something different. as long as it's psychedelic, or whatever, it's fine with me. speaking of, some of the trippiest stuff is coming out of pr0teus's speakers...

and don't forget Phutureprimitive, from Oregon. He produces rather dark, tribal downtempo dub. Enriched with quirky-time signatures, shadowy atmospheres and vocals, brilliant EFX and sometimes menacing synths...

Rain is undisputably one of Americas elitest 'dark' psychedelic producers. And he's more my speed, closer to 115 bpm.... not 155!

his website is a real piece of eye-candy:

anyhoo if you want night music...
try lost baba (aka kri) and bastard (aka alex) from out here in touchsamadhi land.
both of them are raising thier productions to new levels.
i feel bad for forgetting them earlier.

yeah also i would throw in my vote for vector/ocelot, and fractal cowboys, and... proteus...!

yeah Blue, I liked some of those tracks that Kri passed to me. my favorites were ADV and Real Experience. However, it seems that Cali has a firm grip on this shlub-dub sub-genre since the top three have not changed since page 1: Mubali, Bodhi, and GoE. Personally, Ghreg's stuff is dark and tribal, but some of his tracks have a minimal feel to it. Not nearly as layered or frenzied as say Bodhi's stuff. Mubali is somewhere in between. He's dark and relentless, but will not be mistaken for minimal. Not to mention Hydro(damn, Cali!)I'm just glad that the US is growing. Texas is hot this summer, cleveland, Colorado, Illinois, NY, Ashville. We're doing something right. It's a beautiful thing!

David,
I am not personally upset @ you. I do not know you personally. But, It upsets me the negativity describing what some artists put hours into their work. I think it is a matter of describing what you want in a contructive manner.

So i would go something like this. I would like a night producer from the US, who creates music with depth, some melodic elements... blah blah Just putting an effort in describing what you want instead of bashing those who you dislike. That way it sounds constructive and not destructive.

So love is in the air No one is hurt or upset and then the art is describe in the best manner to help you choose.

Good luck with your event. I am sure it will be packed with surprises.

BOM!

Wow! I just read this thread and am amazed at the level of testosterone in the dark light conversations....I think that this is a matter of evolution of taste... and of course by evolution I do not mean unidirectional or unidimensional evolution. Darkness is beautiful appealing and sobering in many forms and music is a wonderful and creative means for reaching these states that some of us may enjoy..... But what I really wanted to clarify is this association of Kali with excessive force, sonic E&M etc.

This sounds like a very Indiana Jones understanding of the Black mother…(which was a gross misrepresentation of her)
Darkness or Kali is NOT about mental torture, Kali is the formless and serene nature of darkness and is it more about withstanding the darkness within ourselves that the music brings out and then being at peace in these states.

Jai Kali Ma!!!
