Mubali says:

>of Evil Records. If you really listen to several >the "dark" compilations, you will find that they >aren't as dark as you would think they would >be...

I don't listen to trance compilations anymore, but I have checked out quite a few "dark" parties and psychomimetic DJ sets while searching for psychedelia. To the contrary of what you said, it almost always suprises me how very dark infact it actually is - and how it is ALL "dark" and everyone seems to "out-macho" or "out-dark" each other. And has to be ALL blood-curdling, whips-n-leather, or the real dominant macho types find it unbearable...

The severity of the music has gotten completely out of hand, for MY OWN sensibilites and musical taste.

For many blissful years, I didn't have any strong opinions on trance styles, other than "FUCK YEAH!!!!". But when I moved to the West Coast USA, I noticed a whole new regime that was all about EXCESSIVE FORCE, sonic S&M, whatever...

It's spawned into just a whole different scene/crowd/ kinda music than goa/psy... and it I think should be called somethin different than "psy-trance" (with occsionally "dark" added to it)..... if only to lessen the confusion and endless 'debates' that occur when ever this contravesrial new genre (or is it a Kali-worshiping fringe cult?) is discussed forums, and within the community.

for f*&%'s sake people
I know we all have our like and dislikes
Music is subjective, end of story

but come on some music just sucks. Regardless of your tastes, some stuff is just bad. light dark, inbetween.
Im not picking on anyone here, cause everyone that produces is guilty at one point in time or another of making crap
but it seems you folks into the darker side of things are much more defensive about it, much more militant. There is no such thing as a bad dark track, and god forbid if someone should actually call one of you on it.
Its as if
no one who makes dark trance can do no wrong, because its pushing new boundries, becuase its psychedelic, and since psychedelic is such a broad ill-defined way of describing it, i think its used a scapegoat for b level tracks, or like being underground is an excuse for these tracks

Us full on folks know theres alot of crap on our side of the yard too. Most Israeli tunes now a days for the most part, but we seem willing to admit, that we produce bad, along with the good.
for the dark people its as if your shit dont stink like the rest of us
just cause your different....

This is the type of thread that pisses me off. All this ignorance about something some ppl can't grasp. I mean go gto saikosounds and listen to the music and get the fuck out of your box David. Make up your own mind and do not start a fricking cruzade against something you diminish and insult.

OK so before you realise that you have just assumed what you think I started this post for let me make something clear. I do not live in a box. I live in Burbank in an apartment.

Im asking because we are thinking about hiring some of these said acts for a future event. I thought who better to give us some Ideas then the isratrance people. That way Bob from Miami and Joe from New York can give me their favorite artist.

Having said that, I thought to ask the PEOPLE (people who dont jump to conclusions) about who the best artist for this genre were. Im sorry that you think Im out to get you and your tastes but thats simply not the case and Im sorry that you feel that way. I hope you have a better day.

here we fucking go again
if you dont like dark trance, thats fine, just dont listen to it, and dont complain loudly on public messageboards either, if your too pussyshit to listen to it because it gives you bad trips then thats your problem, i have had many englightening and positive trips listening to Dark, and i've never killed anyone or worshipped satan.
back on topic : Vector Selector/Ocelot, some seriously twisted ,and many a times aggressive, mayhem in his sounds, simply KILAAAAAAAAAH           We are all visitors to this time, this place. We are just passing through. Our purpose here is to observe, to learn, to grow, to love... and then we return home.

yeah...paradisgm...

it's like "dark" artists aren't accountable... or held to any kind of production or taste standard... and why so militant?

It's like... if someone records a sample of someone visciously flogging a bag of stale Fritos with a piece of rusty barbed wire, in their SF crash pad.. and puts it over a menacing bassline.... then it is a brilliant take of raw, boundary-pushing psycehelia...

intense, pasionate defenses for it are made///

You know... you are partially right... In the subjective listener, there are tracks that the person who listens to it will think sucks. Dark Light Minimal whatever... but at the same time it is very possible that you as a listener did not understand what the producer was trying to say in their music. It could be that the ideas weren't clearly communicated enough. In the end if I don't like a track and trust me, there are plenty of dark tracks that I do not like, I chalk it up to it not being my cup of tea. Maybe it is crap, but maybe it doesn't flow with my sonic resonant frequencies... At the end of the day, all you can do is enjoy the music that you like the most and be open to anything else. You don't see me coming on any forum public or private saying that the melodic music is crap. It's just not my cup of tea. Can we at least agree that each perspective is an objective based around an individual opinion that changes from person to person? Art is Art, whether is modern art that people don't understand to the classics that we were raised to appreciate. Same with music. The moment you climb on a soap box and begin to tell others what music is good or not is the moment you start crawling up your own ass. It's fine to have an opinion, just remember that an opinion is subjective.           An Eagle may soar, but Weasels don't get sucked into jet engines.

Heard the samples from his upcoming album ... Boy oh boy! I've never looked foward to a dark album ever... but this one's got such a great sound. Someone on one of the other threads called it the new Goa Gil sound... I totally agree

reading these threads might make some people angry. just remember, the people spewing are humans too, and we all obviously have lots of room for growth.

everyone agrees here that the tools can work right? well get to it, because this conversation won't be raising the vibe on the planet any time soon.

Brett, your mean.

but your human . . .

ohmy,
I know I should keep centered, breath in and breath out. Collapse my senses and see the light, but three threads with comments like

***
BTW

Im NOT lookifing for the US artist who has the most screams or dogs barking viscously on his or her tracks. Im looking for the intelligent US artist who makes a dark sound. NOT a scary church bells in the background artist just a good dark artist
***

Do not help to get rid of my past lives wrath and rage And Brett, he is just the Torquemada of trance. And I thought of him differently, but he is cruzading to save the psychedelic experience I think mine is fine thank you.

And If you want to know about artists... You have them all speaking here David. Fractal Cowboys, Dyalien, Quasar, Ghreg on Earth, Mubali, Vector Selector, Yohimbe...
