I believe that would be as stereotypical as it gets... Ghreg on Earth is my vote for America. Highko is my vote for Earth.

-Greg on Earth-

Impressed me the most. Shadowy, yet undeniably intelligent and psychedelic soundscapes.

Bodhi sounds intresting from the description, but I haven't heard anything yet.

Dear God, Jesus, Krishna, Shiva, or even Sai Baba:

Please save me from the satanic headbanger/cockrocker IMAGE (Psychotic Micro), or the lets-all-have-a-bad-trip-and-make-angry-faces-on-the-dance-floor traumatic terror cheeze SOUND. No more "angry goblins with indigestion" or Hitler samples for me! Thank you. Amen.

Psychotic Micro ain't that bad. Would much prefer to see them than a plethora of lame-o full-on.

Sure, but I get to write a track with that title....

I would have to agree with a few comments about my stuff. I really wouldn't consider myself all that dark. I would consider my music incredibly aggressive, and occasionally I use some of the stereotypical tricks that give it a darker feel, but more often than not, I would consider my stuff nighttime music. I try to ride the fence between the South African dark full on sound and the Russian nighttime sound. Neither Fungus Funk or Psychotic Micro are based from the US.

I think that Ghreg on Earth definitely is one of the best darker sounding artists that is here in the United states. I think that his sound design is incredibly intelligent. I don't neccesarily think that Bohdi's stuff is all that dark, but definitely is one of the US's best producers.

This leads me to another question that puzzles me: What do you consider intelligent dark music that doesn't resort to horror movies for sampling or church bells or something that you would consider "dark cheese"?

I used to and occasionally still do play Psychotic Micro's stuff. I have been following them since their first release on Parvati, and I think that their best days are behind them. I think a lot of the stuff they are doing now is closer to the CC sound of the genre and can't really hold a candle to the likes of Cosmo or Zik.           An Eagle may soar, but Weasels don't get sucked into jet engines.

YES!!! *high fives*

PSYTANIC TRANCE! or Psychotic trance. or more accurately, PSYCHOMIMETIC trance...

(Psychomimetic- "mimmicking or inducing a psychotic or paranoid sates" ) a term that was used to describe LSD and Mescaline type drugs and the associated experience in the 1950's and 1960's.

One of the huge battles that Leary and Osmond fought was to FIERCELY argue for the differentiation the psychomemetic experience from the true psychedelic one. They insisted that the psychelic experience was something beautiful, spiritual, life-affirming, and altogether ENTIRELY DIFFERENT than the psychotic / paranoid freakout state that LSD was accused of causing by the media and conservative psychiatric professionals.

For further refrence:
http://deoxy.org/psyguide.htm

I think all of the endless-bickering over styles of trance is rooted in the inherrent inaccuracy when music/events with a clearly psychomimetic tone and intention are mislabeled as 'goa' or 'psy', or even 'dark' trance.

It's as wildly inaccurate as mistaking the Grateful Dead for a death metal band, or crowd.. because of the name..

people are welcome to make whatever kind of harsh, psychomimetic noises they like with my blessings... Just don't call it 'psychedelic trance', cause it is clearly a different feeling/experience and genre ...

and it should be called something different, because it is a whole different scene and crowd! that is all I ask.

I dunno about that Brett... I feel that some psychomimetric noises are indeed psychedelic to me. However this is truly a matter of taste. What sounds are great for me, might not be for you and vice versa... It really in subjective to the person who is the listener, that's why we have soo many options.           An Eagle may soar, but Weasels don't get sucked into jet engines.

One of the things that is overlooked with many artists is the fact that you can't write the same style all the time. It gets boring really quickly if you do the same thing all the time. I have tracks that are considered morning tracks by those who are really into the scary stuff... I have a few groovy tracks, I got a couple ones that sound like they belong on 3D Vision. I really don't want my music to be classified as one thing or the other, once something gets classified, it creates a limitation on it. The only reason why I got deemed a dark artist was because my first release was on Mistress of Evil Records. If you really listen to several the "dark" compilations, you will find that they aren't as dark as you would think they would be...           An Eagle may soar, but Weasels don't get sucked into jet engines.

This is the type of thread that pisses me off. All this ignorance about something some ppl can't grasp. I mean go gto saikosounds and listen to the music and get the fuck out of your box David. Make up your own mind and do not start a fricking cruzade against something you diminish and insult.

Brett,
My friend if you get scared and parafucking noid it is your own problem. You own mental traps. I sometimes feel such close mind against something that carries so many good feeling and ppl. I mean i have not met such good hearted sincere and intelligent ppl as those artists you so easily pass inquisition on. What the fuck is so dark about GOW for eg? I mean music can't be more uplifting. Ghreg on Earth sounds more industrial and techy to me than this freakdom of darkness and paranoia.

I am tired of this undermining insulting bullshit that leads only to hurt some ppl, who are true geniuses on what they do. I heard Ocelot tracks three years ago... complete unreleased albums with a incredible uplifting and melodic sound. The man can do it all. Quasar can rip it in the drums and can make any music he pleases. I have had the frickin honor to make music with them and i know what all this artists are capable off. If they choose this or that way to express themselves... It is their life mate And there are ppl who love this sound and understand its power and innovation. So please stop this thread and type something interesting for a change. Bashing ppl with this type of vision and determination seems just childish to me.
