I think that the darkest US artist I've heard is Ghreg on Earth. The Fractal Cowboys stuff is dark, but more twisted and quirky than GoE. I've heard that Olowanpi is making some good dark tunes, but I haven't heard any yet. Also, Bodhisattva 13:20, who i haven't heard yet either...

BTW
Im NOT lookifing for the US artist who has the most screams or dogs barking viscously on his or her tracks. Im looking for the intelligent US artist who makes a dark sound. NOT a scary church bells in the background artist just a good dark artist

Considering what kiva said, my vote definately goes for Bodhi. His synth work, progression, structure over all, very unique and intelligent, yet has good groove in it....and still dark.
Tell me what you listen, and I'll tell you what you are.

Mubali
Bodhi
Ghreg on Earth
some tracks from these guys, may be your "stereotypical" church bell, murder scream trance,
but by and large i think the production quality and ideas that these 3 have makes them the leaders in US dark trance |

Nommos is Gil and Ariana, SF. Someone else can give you more info. (btw, check out GG's newest comp Karmagedon. Sounds like the Goa is back)
I think 'dark', just like 'psychedelic', is pretty subjective.
Bhodi, Hydro, Fractal Cowboys, Ocelot, Mubali et al sound like fun and twisted psychedelic to me. I wouldn't call them dark. Listen to the bass lines. Pretty bouncy, amping and uplifiting usally. (I've had great trips with each of those artists, btw.)
Try Ghreg on Earth for a darker element. |
