tower+soundcard running cubase is SPDIF chained to laptop+soundcard running ableton...
99% of the time I'm not using any VST instruments on the cubase tower.. typically 30-50 audio tracks, some FX and thats it.
anything real wacky with VSTis and/or a ton of FX happens on ableton, those get performed / recorded live into cubase one at a time and i have to live with (edit) the mistakes ;-)
to sync the 2 computers, I just manually beatmatch using the ableton metronome... i distrust MIDI when it comes to sync issues

I start playing with electronic music and purchased Emagic Logic software in 2003 and Collecting Synths and created the projects; Humanoid, Khusuk, Manusia and Bius, but none of the music from there ever finish. Can see one project link is here www.myspace.com/humanoidexperimental
The worst I ever done since then is selling my Sherman Filterbank2 and refusing a good offer of PPG. However I am happy to sell my Genelec Monitors. I am not e great harmonic creator so that I use the fall keys as my "tm".
But all of this music making is just for fun (no dreaming to be of of those psytrance celebs and not and ever lick anybody ass for it), so it just killing the break-time while I am working since I make living from Graphic Art.

always got something going, i have about 7 songs in process now, each of them with a different collaborator, some with 2 or 3 people. plus i'm almost done with some new solo work.
talk about A.D.D., but its been fun to just open up whichever project i'm feeling like makin noise for.
inspiration is a weird whore that likes to just show up unannounced, and without direction. You just have to grab her hair, tug a little, and....wait, what was i talking about? LOL
We are all family. We put the fun in disfunctional.

This is the conclusion I've come to as well, the glorified MIDI syncing of Lives isn't as reliable as the good old beat-matching.
