Basically, I have been hearing a white noise coming out of my monitor speaker whenever i open them (even if there is no signal coming). At first I thought that this was because of the cables I am using, which are balanced XLR but different brands(one does not clip behind my speaker btw). After some recordings though, I could hear this noise in my tracks also, which probably makes it a problem of my soundcard, but I have no clue about what could be the problem. I use a Motu Traveller and the Adam P11A, any help or suggestion would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks

ps: the connection between the card and the speaker is balanced XLR from the speaker side to a quarter inch jack going in the two inputs of my sound card

Are both devices (all devices) hooked up to the same power source? Have you tried a different cable?           Upavas - Here And Now (Sangoma Rec.) new EP out Oct.29th, get it here:

Yes..the power configuration of the monitors and your computer can make a big difference in the noise ratio..

This has happened to me with a couple of interfaces I've had. Is the noise constant or on and off? Have you tried using 1/4" to 1/4" unbalanced cables (if possible)?

At one point I was stuck with a Lexicon Alpha, and I could hear a certain sound similar to white noise every time the computer accessed my external drive (strange since the drive was connected firewire and the interface was on a usb port..still don't understand it), so it's possible (and more likely) that your interface and its drivers are causing the problem.           You believe in the users?
Yeah, sure. If I don't have a user, then who wrote me?

running cabling that is not properly shielded next to each other can cause electro magnetic interference, which i think can be percieved as a white noise..
try running your cables in diferent directions, and using multiple power sources for your setup..
