We continue our Scandinavian tour by reviewing the last single of Swedish producer Whirloop. Be prepared to experience one of the most unique Trance sounds you can find around.

Whirloop

Daniel Swahn is a 25 years old from Göteborg. He debuted in 2004 with a remix of the track California on Inspired Recordings and since then he has released two outstanding albums on JOOF Recordings, "A Fascinations for Clouds" and "Watch the Skies and Keep Looking". If you want to get a taste of the Whirloop sound, other than checking this release, we recommend to track his guest mix appearance on John 00 Fleming Global Trance Grooves radio show in September 2009.

Whirloop – Feel the Effect (JOOF Recordings)

1. Lazy Edit

2. Original Mix

The Lazy Edit and the Original mix are pretty much the same version with the only difference being that the edit is more dj-friendly. Whirloop admitted that his previous productions often had the problem to make the dj job fairly difficult and he hopes this version will allow more djs to spin Feel the Effect in their sets. While this makes perfect sense, we still love the ironic name of the edited version.

In an era where the tempo of Trance tracks is steadily declining and minimal techy sounds are so trendy, Whirloop continues to release tracks that move in a diametrically opposite direction. 140bpm of pure energetic and entrancing sounds with a joy to experiment and not follow beaten path almost second to none in the Trance world. The voice sample that is used repeatedly for almost the entire track is taken from the film Human Traffic. This choice, as confirmed by the producer, is not casual, as he wanted to create an old-school happy attitude track produced with the dancefloor in mind and proud of being labeled as "just" a dancefloor track. Mission accomplished in our opinion and we can only hope this producer will get further support and exposure.

3. Steve Birch Remix

UK Trance producer Steve Birch returns the favor to Whirloop after the latter remixed his last JOOF Recordings single See Through. Overall this version did not really convince us, as the trancey dirty effects and darker sounds appear almost to clash rather than work harmoniously with the sounds preserved from the original version. Lets be clear it is not an horrible work at all, but Steve Birch has done better efforts in the past. It almost feels like he made his duty here and nothing more.

4. Timpa Remix

Timothy Jobe alias Timpa is another talented emerging Swedish producer. His take of Feel the Effect is a banging trancer with pronounced psychedelic influences. The persistent rolling bassline will do lot of damage on the dancefloor, but this version is all about the progression of the infected acid lines in the second half of the track. A really valid alternative to the original mix and we hope to hear more from Timpa in the near future.

Verdict: unpretentious yet innovative Trance music for the dancefloor by a really humble producer, this is how this Feel the Effect release can be summed up. We are glad that there are still producers out there that do not take themselves too seriously and produce music for their own joy and to transmit this passion for (Trance) music to other people. We are human and not robots after all. "Ultimately, we just want to be happy. Hehe, yeah, hang on, what the fuck was I just talking about?”

Tracks to not miss in order of preference: 1 = 2, 4.
