I know exactly what you are talking about but I haven't seen any term in common usage yet. Twilight serves well for the bright side of the South African sound, and I know I've seen people compartmentalize the Doof Records artists as having their own thing going on... since I've been following it a while I tend to refer to Scorb, NRS, and the other LPS artists as having an "Ambivalent" sound (named after the first label to really kick out that deadly combination of mutated rave music and psychedelic hard dance)... but of course this leaves out Phatmatix, Digital Talk, and the rest. I mean, when you have a release from Yabai Records in your hand, just what is that? I am comfortable assigning a lot to the broad category of full-on but there is certainly enough of this darker, edgier sound to deserve a specific descriptor in the common lexicon--one divorced from a specific label pedigree, I might add. Twilight? Maybe. Let's hear from some more people, I'm curious...
And please note I'm not one for gratuitous genrefication, but there are (rare) times where it seems particularly useful to bifurcate existing terminology to enhance our collective map of the musical territory out there.
