it is a sequencer .. you can record Audio from a syntheizer.. or you can use the vsti instruments to create sounds... its a very good program.. difficult at first maybe.. if ur not used to the interface.. but to some rather user friendly... and you could also re-wire it so u can have Reason and also cubase at the same time... |

The software that started it all was not even released on the PC. As far as I remember, it started on the Amiga with the release of Startrekker. This was a 4 channel tracker. But the earliest tracker I can remember on the PC would have be Screamtracker. Fasttracker came out after St3. I started on the PC with Screamtracker (my MODS are kicking around somewhere on the net):) |

no one mentioned music software that released before the nineties
any one rememeber c64 wich used SID chips to synthes sounds and even erlier primitive tone generating programs on spectrum computers?
i think the revolution started with commodore 64!

SID music is still quite popular hence there is a synth based on the SID chip (SID Station) and several softsynths ...

for me it was Impulse Tracker
I'd say a good claim to being the first piece of major music software, would go to MUSIC (MUSICV, etc) - something developed in the classical music electroacoustic scene (mainly based around universities and studios such as GRM, Milan, etc) encompassing folks like Reich, Chowning (inventor of FM), Berio, Stockhausen and Schaeffer. This was around the 1960s-1970s, and is still going.
