when ive got DAWs open I try to minimize the colors and resolution as much as i can, but this lame thing always is resetting the color when resolution changes or vice versa... Idk where I read it but there was a guide somewhere (electrypnose?) to minimizing cpu use by the OS mainly by turning off themes, effects, whistles, bells, vuvuzelas, and setting the resolution and color as low as they go, turning of 3d acceleartion and other gfx spiffy... Helped when i was working from a 2.6 p4 with a gb RAM...
Renoise my main DAW tho defaults to 1024x768 in fullscreen, lower res smashes the interface together and removes a lot of controls but i usually only use Renoise at that resolution rewired into Live 7 (mah bassez) so thats not a problem.
Wehn Ive got Live all set for a digidj or live I usually set the res to 800x600 or at the least dial the colors down to 16 bit, depending on how much is going on in the project.
Ive gotten accustomed to paring away unnecessary CPU using features from years working with less than modern gear, evne tho i dont really need to I still do on this dual 2.6 wiht 3gb, cuz why not, the more i free up the more Live can then occupy wth MIDI.
When I want to get my game on, I usually stay around 1024x768 cuz gfx are cool and all but im oldschool wolf3d head so that res is just fine for me. Im just happy to be able to jump

Ive seen what Renoise looks like on 3 widescreens.... and I fell in love, and wrote poetry, gatehreed wildflowers.... Sadly she would not be mine....
It was showing like, i think 20 channels, with each around 7 or so cm wide (idk im guesstimating metric for the rest of the world and am American and dumb). Not that thats really necessary or even would ease my workflow.
It would be however, SUHWEEEEET.
Im running win7 with all display addons off and 16 bit color, for fun Im gonna revert to default and watch the cpu. AND it stayed the same, RAM dipped slightly. Didnt turn on a more modern theme tho. So yeah:P i dont have to switch resolutions anymore !
Thanks

How far are you sitting away from your screens ? Do you take glasses ? (i do:()
Aren't the default windows fonts to small on those high res screens?
Regarding C6 and HalionSonicSE they use font size 10 or so as Geist do.
How do you deal with small faders ? Must be PITA to operate?

thats weird. my monitors sit on the table, and i lean back in my chair, so distance eye to screen is maybe 1 - 1,5 m and i have no problems with >90% of the plugs i use...
and also not with cubase.. i do lean forward sometimes when using some plugs but it is almost never a pain to work on the high res..
however using the 17" macbook of my wife with 1900x1200 is a pain in the arse because of the freakin small fonts !!!
and yes, i wear glasses and am short sighted..
