Hey, I still have difficulties in deciding, which is better way to work, use the clip or track envelopes.
If you do some basic psy lead, and you need to have some variation lets say in cutoff, resonance, FM-amount, and some LFO-amount, which one do you find better to use?
I found a bug from clip envelopes that makes them quite hard to use (or maybe I am just stupid or something), but as a concept, I think they are better.
But in the other hand, I don't know how to record for example modulation wheel moving to clip envelopes, I suppose that they go all to track envelopes..? So in that way it would make more sense to use track envelopes?

I'm not sure if this properly answers your question, but imo the best way to do modulate of those variables you mentioned is to create your psy lead as an instrument rack (as opposed to operator/analogue + effects on the track), then map the cutoff/resonance/fm/lfo pieces that you like to macro knobs, then either automate those macro knobs on the track-interface w/ the red lines or map the knobs to a MIDI controller and then record your live knob twiddling

One thing I like to do in Session View is to set up a group of clips using Follow Actions. Then I will set up some MIDI channels, each with a group of dummy clips next to it routed to the FX on the channel hosting the chain, all set to different follow actions parameters. Tweak the clip envelopes in the dummy clips, and profit!

What's the bug with clip envelopes?
The parameter's range in the clip envelope is dependent on what the parameter is set at initially...sooooo SAY you want to automate a reverb from 0% Wet to 100% Wet in the clip envelope, the Dry/Wet knob has to be turned up to 100% on the plugin itself before you can access that full-range in the clip envelope..
This confused me at first so...I'm posting for others |
