any max/mspers here? i don't program psytrance with it but i do have a nice little addiction to it.
I've only messed with MAX a bit, but I did a year in school on PD and Csound. Utterly amazing, if you've got the patience/discipline, or if you happen to have one of those minds for which programming comes naturally... unfortunately, I do not. However, I'm thinking about taking the plunge into Max for Live - anyone worked with it much yet?

Everyone listen to asoms trax.
13 yrs ago I got a tascam 414 4 track cassette machine and learned how to make electronic multitracked noise. Now over a decade later I'm on logic 9 sorta doing the same thing but with kik and baz.
Personally I try to encourage people to start w cubase or logic cus you'll learn about multitracking from the more traditional and universal perspective. Live is awesome but its a whole new thing and doesn't cross over to other daws to well. If u learn logic and cubase you'll have a breeze in live, but going from live to the others is a difficult transition.
Big points to the first trance artist who shows me a whole track produced from a maxmsp patch...

I'm pretty sure a lot of chiptunes are written this way because most vsts just don't cut it for true chip sounds. These guys get no respect in the music scene and it really disappoints me. This guy spamtron is amazing.

Heard lotsa music made w max, just never a straight dancey trance track.
A lot of trance artists I've talked to seem to think the max for live thing is really cool, but I am yet to hear someone pull off some uber granular autechrian trancefuk yet.
Double dare!

Back in the early 90's Cakewalk was my main midi sequencer!! loved it to death.
Now, Cakewalk got a big monster and not beeing used much I guess for Psy....beside "Loki" that uses it in an excellent way, for me, Cubase has been my first choice and Ableton Live 7.
I believe you should get a really strong quadcore computer that can handle abusive plugins with ease, that will help the most on your flow on your favorite sequencer.
And of course, a good soundcard to deliever clear sound with great drivers, myself, uses a quadcore with RME9632, love it, it never asks for more CPU power, and my sequencers of choice just let you flow.....

i've heard of this chiptune thing before but never actually experienced it. does it all sound like this guy? i mean, this sounds like music from an old 8 bit nintento game...

Well thats what chiptunes are. Its also referred to as 8-bit. So yea it all sounds like Spamtron but not really. Obviously you are not a gamer. That track is called Chrono Tripper which is a cover of a classic super nintendo RPG game Chrono Trigger. Its all different styles, they just use those sounds. A lot of artists are into using just the gameboy as their main instrument. This guy in Sweden created a basic tracker program for the original gameboy called LSDJ (Little sound dj) which does not have sounds in the cartidge itself but actually takes the sounds from the gameboy and turns it into a synth. Very cool. Also artists use the same programs as psy artists. There are some people who do 8-bit goa tracks which are fun. This guy is one of my favs and will be playing in ny real soon. I made a thread for it. The monthly show is called Pulsewave and is kick ass. This guy is minusbaby.
