started in Fruity Loops, moved through Ableton, Cubase, and Logic, finally ended up back in Ableton, because IMO, it's workflow is just the most conducive to creativity - but ended up getting a TC Powercore for reverbs/eqs/compressors/etc. because I got so spoiled by the gorgeous sound of Logic's plugins, and the built in Ableton stuff sorts sucks...           Original Tracks and Remixes:

O_O i didnt realise that everyone on the N.American section of the forum were producers/writers!
heavy days...

so it seems Cubase is the easy one to start on, and best one to learn the basics?

i wouldn't say cubase is the easiest by any means. the learning curve on cubase and logic are much the same, and it is a high learning curve. it does help to have used other DAW's sometimes, but either way, you need to learn new vocabularies and really delve into the application, which takes time.

ableton is an easier learning curve, partly because they designed it in such a brilliant way. i mean, there is a dialog box telling you what stuff does for everything you scroll your mouse over...

Reason is a great teacher, in my opinion...it's like having an (albeit low quality) studio with infinite cords and patches....somewhere within all that, you have to be able to produce some serious shiz...and you can...sitting down with bodhi, who works with reason as shulgin does with phenethylamine's, it all seemed so simple....

Ableton for composition and cubase for sound work           Wake walking through your sleep dream

IMO, that would be a good choice. In addition to the brilliant design and intuitive workflow, there is an almost inexhaustible supply of great tutorials and instructional videos for Ableton all over the internet, from really basic to really complex... including stuff by many successful producers/performers, Tom Cosm being the first that pops into my head.           Original Tracks and Remixes:

I started on FL back in '01 then played with Reason 2 for a while and eventually after much frustration finally got Cubase SX3 to click in my sleep ... true story . I woke up one fine Saturday morning and began to compose ! I guess I though about it so much that it finally downloaded in my sleep .. very very strange lol

..and I definitely agree with Kri in regards to "its how well you write music" .. I think each sequencing software has a unique final product and it's up to the artist as to how they want to create their music with each unique set of tools

The longer I write music the more the computer is turning in to a big multi track tape recorder. Playing instruments with your hands rather than using a computer to play them for you.           Kri
