which software do you use, and why?
Ableton, Reason, Logic, Cubase etc etc

I use Renoise, its not a common one I believe. Its basically a tracker interface for modern DAW software. It can do pretty much anything that Cubase and the rest can do, but rather than an arrangement view like most, it has a pattern edit view which looks like machine code arranged vertically, rather than horizontally like most, instead of the actual sounds displayed its just the note name and instrument number; C3-03. Its got a cut/paste effectiveness very much like Microsoft Excel, drag/drop your selection and copy/cut/paste just like Excel. Ive tried other DAWs but theres always SOMETHING that I want them to do that Renoise does better and faster.
I use it cuz Ive used trackers since the late 90s and it can do pretty much anything i want it to do cleanly with modern production quality. That, and the 50 euro price tag is just right for someone like me without a large amount of dough to drop on DAWs and hardware.

I use Cubase 5, because no other music software matters.
I absolutely love Trilian, Microtonic, and a few other trusty plugins to go with my Cubase, mmmmmm.

I am personally only familiar with Cubase because my ex use to write for hours on end while i watched and listened. It seemed crazily confusing at first. but now i see it follows a pretty simple pattern.
I though this thread would be interesting for producers. perhaps you guys could share ideas and tips as well

There's a big section of the forum for production talk, so most of us frequent there...

I used to be a Cubase lover but I have been cheating with this little Phat chic named Ableton live as of late and man we been groov'in together nicely!
She takes a minute to get used to for production but once you get it down, its almost endless on things you can do.

i really like ableton myself. it meshes nicely with the two different projects i have going on right now (one psy, one a weird mix of electronic and traditional instrumentation).
  Are you connected to yourself?
