you can use any kind of microphone, as long as it's good quality and you have an acoustic room.           "We Do Not Allways See Things As They Are. We See Things As We Are" -Ancient Chinese Proverb

There's a plugin that's supposed to fix this problem - you can record using microphone A, and then pass the WAV file through that plugin which knows what microphone you used (has a huge list), and you can select a "field microphone" sound. I don't know what the plugin name is though.           http://www.myspace.com/Hooloovoo222

i can strongly recommend the røde condenser mic nt-3. itīs a little more expensive than say a shure mic
but the detail, clarity and punch in this mic is well worth the money.
recording with cheap micīs produce cheap sound
thatīs just the way it is.
it operates on phantom power or an internal 9v battery making it ideal for outdoors use.
i donīt think you can get a better mic in this range and at this price.

hey man, just a couple of comments-
a- a mic cant be cardoid and omni it's the mic get the information arround him -oni is almost 360 deg
sorround and cardoid is more specific, get the cardoid for outside recordings that way you can be more specific about the outdoor sound you record. second you should only work with condencer and not dynamic ( jason not any mic...!)
cause the condenser is allot more sensative, dynamic is good only for 10 cm away use. ( stages singers etc..) condencer is for outdoors. i would go for a shotgun myself ( if i had the money.. )

i canīt help you with an israeli distributor. i only know who imports it to denmark, but you can contact rode to hear them who the israeli importer is.

ohh yeah to jacky: shotgun micīs are extremely
specific mics to use. yes they are supersensitive but not but they have a very narrow field. they are good for tracking moving sound sources, like in a footballgame where the ball sounds n shit all come from shotgun micīs operated by people around the stadium. another application for this is spying on people far away or behind doors and windows
this is only for specialist applications.
