It depends, can it be a concious apathy?

Ignorance is worst as its a choice, apathy is terrible as i think its often related with war or disease....
So there is no choice in the latter...

i believe that apathy is the worst thing possible.
because in my opinion it is a choice that someone took.
well at least i consider it the worst sin that i do im my life. it is the choice to surrender. it is a choice to give up.
one is apathic if he simply doesnt find more power in himself or herself to fight for his or her vision. because the wind against it is much too big. then comes apathy. it is the choice that one made. recently i was talking to a tibetan lama who was telling me that it is the biggest sin that a person can make - not to follow his purpose. it is worse than even killing. because killing someone is ignorance - it is done because the person doesnt realize that it is a bad thing to kill ( mostly).
on the contrary, not following a purpose that has been given you to do in your life, is apathy and it is a conscious choice to give up. if i could wish something to change in this new year 2010, it would be exactly this. not to give up. to find somewhere deep some power to do what i know that i have to do. whatever the wind is, however strong it is. visions should survive even if the whole world is against you. this is my most inner wish for this year that i have. i am preying to follow it.

viewing it from that point I agree.
For me its also the goal for this yea, leave apathy behind to develop myself

I'm glad this turned into a sort-of-serious discussion but I'd just like to point out that it started out as a joke.

Huh?..
Watever...
If you are serious, ignorance is far worse than apathy - not for you personally but for the society. Apathy produces docile cattle. Ignorance (without apathy) produces activists who don't even understand what they are fighting for. Have seen plenty of those - of pretty much every political persuasion. And the less they know the louder they scream. |
