Sorry i only have experience with the Virus Indigo & TI, never heard the A.
However i think all the generations have the same 'sound'. The newer versions just have more features such as effects, more processing power etc etc.
I say go for it, at $300 it should be a steal! http://www.soundcloud.com/getafixmusic |

My analog outs seem to switch off the moment cubase is started with the TI plugged in the USB.
Would be perfect to have Virus Control as well as be able to run analogue outs to an offboard sound-card. Does anyone do this? |
| you probably just have to switch the output of each part
from usb to analog out (in virus control, common tab) ...

I sold mine a while ago. I can kind of agree with you on that. The virus sounds good, but I don't think it's worth the price they are asking. I just found myself using other synths more and couldn't justify having it

yes, i believe they are all compatible, since the core is the same. except of course each consecutive model had something added. so whatever is not present in your model is simply ignored and whatever is there is set according to the info in the patch. at least that's my understanding of it.

I don't know for sure but to my ears I think the A, B/C and TI all have different DACs.
I'm not sure if the B and C have the same DAC but I haven't heard the C in person to really judge.
The A sounds lofi the TI sounds much too clean IMO..
to me the sweet spot is with the B both feature wise and pure sound wise. |

so the guy agreed to $300. i go to pick it up. naturally, i had to make sure everything is in working order, so he had it set up. so i'm standing there checking all the knobs, while chatting with this dude. he's being very helpful, giving me all these tips, telling me how much he loved this synth when it first came out. so then he says: "just so you know i'm not pulling all this stuff out of my ass" he goes to his pc, pulls up the access site, goes to the Hall of Fame page, and says: "that's me."
Duane Buford. Ministry.
Hahaha. Holy shit. Ministry is by far my favorite industrial band. So we chatted about that for a bit. I guess he played on the Filth Pig album and did a bunch of tours with Ministry and Revolting Cocks. and he was in that "fair"scene in Spilberg's AI movie. cool shit.
i checked the access site when i got home and there's an interview with him from 2004. and that's the virus that i bought in the picture:

so, yeah, that was fun.
and i'm really enjoying spending time with the virus. it was such a great feeling to just hook it up to a small controller and sit with it in BED for two hours just fucking around with it. definitely was easier on the eyes too.

Has anyone purchased a TI-snow? When I had the money for a synth I chose the Polar since it has nicely weighted keys and controls that could (if I chose to) be templated to internal synths. I haven't needed to use that much--currently my design setup is more mobile so it makes me curious if anyone hit any walls with the snow or if its limitations compared to the other TIs have any particular impact to using it?
That being said, the virus is quite an instrument.

ehh the virus sounds like a pumped up vst instrument i think , i lately too have found myself using this fellow rarely , only justification to keep him would be to pass external audio into the Solid effects section it has and the Atomizer too

I have owned a Virus B
Played with Virus C
Played with Virus TI
Own HTDM version of Indigo
I like the HTDM version of the Indigo the best.
I would actually buy a physical one, mainly because I have programmed this synth a lot and have many patches matched to controllers and it would be fun to lug a real synth to gigs. Not that I gig that often.
Superior DAC
24bit/192Khz
Routing Possibilities
No patch/save fuss
I sold Virus B cos the vocoder was a real pain in the arse.
The Virus C was Virus B plus extra hormones
Virus TI a new bucket of cod with its USB which some peeps had trouble with. I didn't care!
I generally like the Virus because of the modulation possibilities plus there are some really excellent patches available which makes tweaking rather pleasant.
They sound awesome and provide great sonic opportunities if you like crafting synth patches.
I'll stick with the virus for some bass and freaking weird sounds. Ay.

I'm a former TI 61-key owner who now owns a Snow. So far I haven't had any issues with it. It took some time getting used to not having all the knobs but with a good MIDI controller, I can actually do things with it that I couldn't do with the big one. For live playing, it definitely makes it easier on me. Selecting parts, patches and paramters is very streamlined. The only thing I should advise about is that it only uses 4 MIDI channels instead of 16. However for DAW usage it still has the three USB outs so it doesn't bother me that much. Worth the money IMO.
