respect to debian, i am just used to work with redhat, and after rhel been released I switched to centos.
full_on may be you use slackware cause not aware of debian and centos?:)
However centos is enterprise solution. I never used Linux for desktop..don't know how X looks like;-)

hahahhahahha
looks really cool, and more cool if u use a distribuition with a nice support to install and update software, at least in my case, the better experience in a desktop was using centos and debian.

yeah baby.... X is really cool... especially with compiz-fusion... damm thing runs smooth as silk even on a celeron! and the effects are kick ass!!
I use debian as a desktop. but do most of my tasks on command line... use graphics for browsing n stuff.
anyone tried gentoo?

I use Slackware because it works. Of course you must know your hardware, compile the kernel and some other stuff, but it works perfectly, including X and everything, for both desktop, server and workstation (I used it already in all those cases, though I think FreeBSD is the best solution for a server, at least it was security-wise some time ago).
People here at work use Gentoo, Fedora, Mandrake, Ubuntu, Kubuntu and many other stuff. There always seems to be a problem with something. I also know Debian and Suse for a long time, but never heard about anyone around here using Centos (though we have some pay programs here that run on Red Hat Enterprise. Of course, I managed to make them run on my Slackware).
Anyways, I'm used to Slackware now, I think it is great (it is very Unix like), so why to change?

Gentoo is a source based distro. It's a spinoff of BSD-ports.
The cool thing with it is that you can enable hardware specific flags while compiling ur stuff, n the package manager (portage) does the rest for you, that includes resolving and compiling dependencies too!

Yes, it does! Just so you know: It's a debian based distro
