Hello Friends,
I have recently got very busy with work and studies and am getting very liitle time for composing music so I would like to know how to best go about it.
1.Is it wise to just compose some tracks and mix and tweak them later whenver I have ample time or is it better to tweak and mix while composing.
2.Would it be a better idea to make some loops and samples , save them and then use them in compositions as I think it would be a better idea ti have some loops and samples as it might help in composing tracks faster.meldoes and leads can be made in keys for later use too.
Whats the best way you suggest if someone is dying to compose good music but does not have enough time. Please suggest.
Thanks

get ready for a batch of "do what makes sense to you/nobody can answer this question for you but you" replies.
but i personally think that 1a and 2 are good ideas. work on the tracks really fast to flesh out structure, melodies, breaks, ideas you want to implement. so do like an outline and try to make it as interesting and as good as you can musically. THEN worry about selecting/synthesizing the proper sounds for each part and making sure they fit.
and having separate sessions where you just synthesize sounds, make loops, fx, etc. without having the pressure of "working on a track" and which you can use once the muse strikes makes a lot of sense. |

Unfortunately it's true..there is no right answer, just depends on your workflow.
My solution to this is kind of a combination of both..I either do an entire sketch of a track in one session (usually 3-4 hours) and tweak later or I make some individual loops to try out in a live set when I don't have enough time or energy to do an entire track.
  You believe in the users?
Yeah, sure. If I don't have a user, then who wrote me? |

I have very little time for music also, busy with ful time day job and part time bartending. I just sleep less in order to have time. But I try to stay focused in finish a track every time, instead of starting a few new arrangements.
Finishing tracks requires some discipline. You just have to do the "work", even if you feel like you want to write 16 bar loops of new kicks and bassliens every day.
Peace out.

Hi 3l3ctromonk!
I have made similar question for the people in this forum...
I am am sure you know the answers for your question, because you have mension them...
As other people said, it's a matter of finding what works best... but, most of the time, knowing how other people work, can be useful..
Personally, some time ago i tought i would dedicate some time to make samples, and choose all the instruments i would be using for my goa...
It wud be quick while creating a track,(i tought)
Some people in isra agreed, but
most people said:
I can't be bothered to choose everything before....
I create samples and presets as i go....
It's time consumming.... etc, etc, etc...
And i stick with my idea...(after all, some things a person needs to find out by himself)
OH man, fuck that shit........
After i spend a couple of days, tweaking some percussion elements, leads etc...All done very nicely and precisely, i see it doesn't work for me..
I create samples, presets, everything, as i go...
I do this because, u spend some time tweaking an instrument, it sounds as it should, but, doesn't fit in the context, if you know what i mean...
I write the music = Creation, and everything involved in it
AS well as choosing instruments to fit in, and saving them to use in the next tracks.
Musical Arranjement = Can be done after it has been written (tweaking those perfect
synth sounds could be done in this stage)
I mix the music = Here is more about mixing techniques that i am learning in my course
Anyway, this is me! It might be helpfull, it might not... you decide

It's best to set goals for yourself before you sit down.
Decide that you are going to write one really good melody for example and then stop after that.
Maybe decide to get the drums sounding really nice for one part then stop.
Eventually you can decide that you are going to lay out one small section of the song.
Then maybe the next time just do a break down or build up etc...
I have hardly any time right now either. I'm getting through some new stuff piece by piece this way. I just have to make sure I have a goal when I sit down and I have to make sure it's realistic.
