Soooooo, I wanted to post this in the India forum, but I'm afraid of pissing people off with a first post...

I'll be spending christmas and new years around goa as an escape from Bangladesh, as much as I enjoy my time here, women on beaches not fully covered head to toe victorian style and hopefully a few cold beers and a little smoke will be a very nice escape.

The problem, is where to stay. I'm not worried about finding a party, there will be big stuff on at hilltop or whatever and hopefully i might track down a crew for a chilled open air party away from the mob.

I am however wondering where to stay when not partying? I'm not fussed. This place in Vagator called Bean Me Up sounds alright with good food and simple, but themed rooms.

Factors to consider: Girlfriend is coming from philippines and she demands luxury. Air conditioning and a pool are not necessary, but would make her superficially happy. I think a better drawcard should be a half way pretty beach where she can swim and sun herself reasonably nearby. I'm sure I'll be scootering around, but this would be a plus to walk to a nice beach.

I would rather travel a fair way to a party and stay in a nice place near a nice beach where there might be some cool and funky kids hanging about.

So, should I stay in Vagator, Anjuna or Arambol? What accomodation would you reccommend? Price is a factor, 500 Rs would be preferred but I can push it all the way to 2000 Rs if there is value in it, but not beyond.

Thanks for any advice.

can't say much about anjuna...
but i doubt you'll get those kinda luxuries in vagator/arambol..! (even if u had the money...)you're going in dec...why would she want A/C???
pool??!! the whole of goa is a pool damnit!

arambol is v beautiful but atleast +1hr away from vagator...and is way up north...i think it's the 2nd beach in goa after tricol?tiracol?

vagator is a better option (imo)..

also, you're going at the worst time..christmas/nye i think u'll have 2 pay more than Rs 2000 for NORMAL rooms...!! (no pool, sauna, mirror, faulty door locks)

the kinda rooms you're looking at: you'll find in baga/candolim (taj candolim!!) but i'm scared 2 even think of the prices at that time of the year...!

There's this resort on baga beach...tito's road..called fatima resort...a/c, pool, bla bla...but prices...??? around jan end, it was Rs 1300/night...

Thanks for the reply, I think I have settled on vagator.

Could you please recommend specific accommodation in the area so I could research recommendations a little further? thanks

hi there

if you go in christmes time expect to pay a lot for a room and it wont be simple to find a free one as well

about vagator, there is a part of vagator that called small vagator, its a long cliff with nice guest houses and resturants
its a really nice place with a lot of good food and night life and a lot of tourists, especaily in christmes time

when i stayed there (end of jan 08) i payed aboout 500 Rs for a double room with a balcony facing the beach, it was great!

there are also some clubs in this area, the nine bar is right in the middle of this road, playing psytrance everynight till 10 pm
and also the hilltop that is 5-10 minutes walk that have many kind of parties all the time

and if youre in goa i advice you to rent a bike \ scooter, its the best way to move around there couse everything is near by and the traffic is more relaxed (compared to rest of india )
its cost about 150 - 300 Rs to rent one for day and you can find them everywhere in vagator

btw - a bike ride from arambol to vagator takes about 45 minutes and its a really nice way

enjoy yourself in goa!

Check out The Tamarind

http://www.thetamarind.com/aboutus.html

Highly recommended, and they do lower the price if you insist enough

It's away from the idiots, yet close enough to everything.

Nice German couple own it.

Tamarind is a great place, try to book now, they got a a nice pool, and the rooms are pretty decent. I doubt that the prices will be very reasonable in xmas and ny!!
also check out Jacky's day and night in Vagator, no pool, nor luxury.. but cheap and clean and only walking distance to the lovely Vagator beach. Man you're going in the worst time of the yeaaaaaaar!!
