Suddenly my transitions in my track sound really odd... hard to explain...
If you have a 8 bar loop and want to make 1 bar for example with no kick or so, do you but it like the last bar of the 8 bars or as the first bar of the next 8 bars og do you put it in between...

I put it at the last bar of the 8 bar loop, that way it feels as if everything is being kept in sync and it definitely helps with phrase matching with mixing. There're a couple of producers who definitely don't stick to that though so it's not compulsory. |

last bar of 8 bar loop usually for me but by the end of the day its a personal choice as long as the flow sounds good |

U can also put it in an added extra bar to increase anticipation, or shorten the 8 bars down to 7 and put it in the seventh. to make it feel like you're accelerating into a new piece. thwarting expectations.
A lot of artists build up anticipation by putting in extra bars of the same where there should be new sections, and makes it feel like anticipation is building coz something unexpected is coming.
Its not a crime to insert bridging bars in between sections, just as it isnt to change the number of bars from 4 - 4 -> 3 -> (2>1) its all balanced. but its a buildup coz stuff is getting shorter and has more energy.
No right answers, but many wrong ones.

That!!!
During a time i was pretty stuck with the idea that to have a 100% DJ friendly track one should not add / remove bars at the end of sections but then i began to experiment with teasers, fills and overall stuff one does at the end of section and a whole new dimension opened to my music.
It is fun because then you add / remove bars at other sections to balance the track and still manage to get that Dj friendly structure.
Good luck. n_n |

sometimes i like to make transitions as a separate part:
For example
8 bar
8 bar
2 or 3 or 4 bar transition
8 bar
8 bar
etc.
