i think its ok to try making similar sound to artists u like u can learn from that. every beginner guitar player practice on playing jimi hendrix or slash guitar solo to improve his technice or sound so its ok for a beginner. later on u start developing your own sound..

But playing like Jimi hendrix or slash is more than just learning the notes they play,
you must practise like nuts and also interpret their emotion when playing, their style and maybe for hendrix alot of lsd and red wine, for slash a lot of jack daniels haha(speed also?)
so it boils down to practice, imitation, emotion, and a state of mind sometimes...
Its not a bad thing to learn stuff, but to copy just because something is Hip and in fashion just so you can get gigs is lame and not innovative at all.
Learning is everything... but to do that you have to listen and practise, get the right gear and be very focused

yap, but if someone ask how to copy solar fields style, you can know its not gonna happen
It takes years of learning and practise and than you can start thinking of copying their style... But if you already are at that point of knowledge, do yourself a favour and give up on that idea!
In best case you will be known as solar fields replica
Enjoy making music and develope your own sound!

but if you're serious about making music, stop trying to find samples and start working on synthesis.

IMHO Prodigy or some hip hop producers are deadly serious about music making and use samples ridicously well. As usual there are no right and wrong things but things done well or not.
