Where in the world......

Where would you say in the world is a hot spot of the psy scene in terms of production. In other words, I'd like to travel some place where I could actually connect with other friendly artists who would be willing to share insight, mentor, and possibly collaborate. I'm from Calgary, Canada and while we have a cool scene with regular DJ's it's hard to learn about producing. I am quite serious about going somewhere. Thanks for any tips!

Come on..he asked a reasonable question. If he wants to learn somewhere else why not? If he cant find any advice or helpful response on a board like this where else?

There are plenty of places you could go, why not combine your goal to learn with travelling somewhere you have always wanted to go anyhows. Maybe scanning the regional sections would be a good starting point.

Good luck!

I didn't say I want to move somewhere. I want to *travel.* Let me elaborate on what I'd wish to accomplish. I would like to travel to a place or places where there is a happening scene. I want to see how the scene works, how people throw parties and manifest the vibe, and most importantly make friends. During my travels I want to encounter artists who are friendly and egoless enough they would be willing to lend insight about production techniques, specific to psy. Perhaps they would do some one on one "mentoring" or "coaching."

After my travels I would come home and apply what I have learned to my own scene. I would work to bring the energy and vibe that I absorb into my own events, in turn building and contributing to the scene where I am from and love (Calgary, Canada). I would apply my new found production techniques to my own musical creations and possibly become something rare, a Canadian psy producer.

Then I would remember those artists who helped me along my journey. I would return the energy by working to fly them out to perform at one of my parties (mistaya productions).

I already have a strong foundation in skills. I am a degreed musician once legit (saxomophone), turned happily to electronica. I have a home studio, cubase, a macbook pro and all that. You can talk to me about compression, limiting, and phrygian scales and I'll understand (mostly). I'd like to think I don't need to go back to school - rather spend time in another community with the spirits and art form I love so much and pick people's brains.

I would call it "professional development."

Anybody out there mind if I travel to your country, attend a party or two and hang out and chat about music? I'm planning on leaving for Europe this February. Please pm me if there is something good coming up in your neck of the woods. Or you might say rayZen, "If you're ever in (insert name of country here) give me a shout and we'll hook up. I'd love to show you my studio. Hell if you even need a place to stay for a few days I've got a futon you can crash on!"

peace,

Psytrance is such a global thing right now, I don't think you need to go anywhere at all to learn what you need to know..

That really depend if you want to learn about MTV Mega raves or what the initial idea was all about with this scene.           http://www.peopleagainstpeace.net/

I agree and I disagree. For me I have come quite a long way through reading manuals, chat forums such as this and long distance phone calls. I am however tired of teaching myself and would actually like some interface of the human kind. It will make all the difference. Just plain getting out in the world is important to me. Think of all the networking you accomplish. Just the thought of all the new friends out there is very exciting. I want to get out there and interact! As an artist you are either appearing or disappearing.
....I have big dreams and want to meet the best producers.

India. Lotsa new chaps who are itching to share ideas and musical expertise. Perfect environment where solitude and commerce are just a few hours a way. I think you'll find everything you need in the sub continent.
