Where does the noise come from?

I've noticed that in many minimal house \ minimal techno tunes there is a low-level noise that is present through the whole track. It's very quite, but still very audible, and it deginetely adds some juice to the overall sound. Maybe it's my persional impression that the sound feels more "analog" when it has some noise? =)
Know what i'm talking about? Listen to Trentemoller's tunes or Pascal F.E.O.S. No silence in tracks, even if it's pure kick playing. I'll post samples a bit later...

Wondering, what is that, maybe a huge noise shaping during mastering, or artifacts of vintage analog processing? Or they specially add some noise to emulate that non-perfectness??

But it does sound very nice for my ears
Haven't notices such things in psytrance, btw.           http://soundcloud.com/aedem

in the trentemoller's myspace, the breath on the second track is due to reverb on the melody who cliks at the beginning of every notes.
on the further tracks, the noise seems to be in the samples themselves + huge compression

your question makes me think about a friend of mine who recently have made an ambient album with an 4 tracks analog tape recorder : http://www.myspace.com/geographieintime

and also, of course make me think about pole : http://www.myspace.com/poleartist

It could be a signal from a mixer or any piece of equipment, or just noise added there by purpose. I sometimes do a little bit of analogish touches on some parts

I would say reverb in most cases, especially with Trentemoeller.

Otherwise any analog processing done, although I doubt any audible noise would be from the ME...unless they sent their tracks back to the 60's for mastering.

New minimal tech is usually gritty to some extent..plenty of ways to get that sound.           You believe in the users?
Yeah, sure. If I don't have a user, then who wrote me?

Back in the day when i was a groovebox man I used to get this noise all the time. It was a battle to have all your cables sorted out so they dont touch any electrical cable couse if they do you get this noise. The Mackie mixer itself also had this noise so i think it just comes from analog equipment and cables

And in minor cases it could just be a Vintage Warmer process, the old sound is new again!

Our tracks sound like a faxmachine where there should be silence... if You listen closely...

Just a result us being too lazy to sort out signal problems...           www.iono-music.com
