I just cant seem to find it, it feels like years since i had that intense drive and satisfying flow to just work, But then i always came to a road block and i finished way too little stuff.

Do i need a shrink or you got any advice to
Feel happy about accomplishing something? Not for anyone else but my self.

Whats the first step? To dare my self or force my self with threats, Everything with potential just sits there on the hard-drive and i constantly start something new and never finish it.
Its depressing.

Tips on anything to get going and really follow through is welcome.

Btw long time no seen Isratrance, feels like ages i was here. Hope you all are good!

IMO the first step is to stop giving yourself a hard time. Creativity comes and goes, and sometimes it's just not the right time to find that flow. I've had periods of months at a time when I can't get motivated to write, but when that happens I know that at some point it will come back, so I don't give myself a hard time about it.

if you want to help yourself get back into that space, try setting aside a regular time to be in the studio, make sure you have no distractions and just let whatever happen, happen. If you don't have any musical inspiration, learn a new synth. Create a bunch of sounds for a potential track. Have a smoke and listen to some music. Don't force yourself to write, just set up a regular routing of being in a good place for it to happen if it wants to, and potter around doing stuff that will make it easier. Eventually I reckon you'll get inspired by something, whether it's the possibilities of a new synth or plugin, or a bunch of sounds you've just made that fit together so well, or something else.

Also, try making a rule for yourself to never start a new track unless you've finished the old one - no matter what it ends up sounding like. Even if it's rubbish. Not every idea is a good one but you never know how good it is until you actually finish it. Sure, some tracks will end up sounding shit but if you stick with it you'll find that the ratio of shit to gold gets smaller and smaller over the years. At least, that's my experience. But yeah - make a deal with yourself to finish everything you start.           Mastering - http://mastering.OOOD.net :: www.is.gd/mastering

Hilarious, just last night I also asked for inspiration. If I look back and listen to the stuff I produced 6 years ago - it sounds so detailed and full of potential, but still its also a lot of work to get them back to pristine quality.

Lately I start something - build up a k&b, percussion and a Lead, then I just stop. Even-though it sounds great I think I am just wasting my time.

1.) Inspiration comes from some type of acknowledgment, even if its just someone saying: " Nice track "
but if u don't finish nothing no-one can give that to you.

2.) Going out doing something adventurous can also create new memories and moments which can be converted into inspiration.

3.) The other thing is - imo - I believe it has something to do with how you feel about yourself, your accomplishments and your physical health. This is a long shot - but imagine you start to exercise everyday. It will definitely change your perception about yourself. Which will then lead to you feeling better about yourself and everything around you- and guess whats also around you, your tracks/mixes. I exercised everyday a year back, and I remember how it felt like I loved the world and I wanted to get out there somewhere and just do something, laziness gone - in a way that was inspiration. If you are happy, everything is easier and you will then also have more "hope" for future projects.

4.) Forcing yourself is a way, but realize there is a reason you have to force yourself. . The question would be "Why is it necessary". Fix the problem at the Core, which is you...
Threatening yourself is a laugh, cause in the end you wont follow through with it. Don't become your own enemy. lol

Learning a new synth like colin said is also a good idea.

Good luck man

The exact same scenario here
Although my partly made tracks of years ago weren't that great, but at least I would go ahead and try out different things, experiment with loads of fx and let the creativity flow much more than I do nowadays.
In the meantime I went from owning just a Virus Snow to:
-Virus Snow
-Nord Rack 2
-Slim Phatty
-Pulse 2 and the TT-303.

That should be enough to finally start making some tunes you would think, but mostly I don't get beyond the Kick/Bass/Little percussion/and a few sounds here and there point for more than 32 or 64 bars.
I will probably get rid of 2 of those anyway as I'm feeling lost with all those machines around me

Catchy topic, this one! My best practices here:

1. Get back to the fun factor. Understand what it is that gives you energy in producing, and focus on that. In my case it's mainly in creating a track, more so than doing extensive mixing and finishing it. As a result, many projects end up unpublished/unfinished. But that's okay, since I've had my fun - and also learning experience - from them.
2. Make the tasks you give yourself smaller. I don't have much time, certainly on week days, to spend with my DAW, so I have to think of ways to make it worth while even when I take only half an hour to head upstairs. Besides, in my case, I can do a tutorial or some other more serious work (as compared to 1) and still find the drive for it. After all, this way I'm able to achieve something every day.

Hope the force will be with you again soon ;-)

i get the drive from hearing that alot of psytrance is just chugging on with barely any interesting components at all. and seeing them LIVE act like old grannies with parkinsons,

If its just another vanilla track with leads with about as interesting as down syndrome, no real melody/flow, one note basses throughout (Too much effort to re-sample any more than one note!!) just an affirmation to me that the artist cant grasp enthralling music. and should be making deep house, or minimal techno.

you can collaborate with other artists.
surround yourself with inspiring, positive and creative people.

it takes a lot self discipline in order to work alone.
the super productive people are ambitious and have short term goals that they want to achieve.
if you're not worried about that, and if you're mainly an hobbyist musician you may tend to procrastinate.

if you are a professional musician.. and if your income comes mainly from music, sometimes you may be somehow forced to create or to produce results.

I think about these things as well.
sometimes I wish that ten years ago I knew what I know today. so I could do more when I was super inspired by the scene.

as a small local artist, 10 years later, it's time to separate the men from the boys.
I see my life in a total different way. and I have other priorities and tastes. and I do not feel excited about certain things like I used to. but I know two things:
I want to keep living an artist life.
I don't want to give up from everything that I learned.

so I have to do things for myself. and that is: to work,
to create and to keep learning and improving.
and to contemplate other options than just a dj life always on tour....

Dont put too much pressure on your self that what your making have to be the best fucking thing you ever done.
Instead just pick it up with an eager to create , bad or good doesent matter.
Dive in to new things. New synthesis, new way of working.

Its easy to get stuck in a pattern of how the production gets done, that pattern make making a tune much faster and with the same signature sound, but can be boring and frustrating to use the same techniques over and over.
when i feel stuck in that way i make another styles which i got NO techniques in and have to figure it all out, just like in the beginning.

listening to other peoples music, or even more: Dancing to other peoples music gives a big motivation(atleast for me).

Great advice all.
Many true words of wisdom.

So it depends on which approach you have to the whole music thing. Where you want to be and what you want to do.

Right now i will try to collaborate and also do the kind of music my spirit needs and wants. Healing music seems to be a recurring thing.

Money feels less and less valuable. Even if we are chained by it. It don't make wonderful music and never has.
Just some weeks ago me and my friend traded music for icecream outside a Kiosk.... point being that music is a form a currency...

Peace and love to those who find it within

smoke a fatty. have a wank. keep out of the studio for two weeks and see if getting distance drags your flow out of the depth again. stop listening to other trance and get inspired by nature sounds and/or completely other styles of music and pull these back to your personal recipe. or just get the fuck on with it
many ways to rome..
oh and for sure all artists have these times.

You know what always works with me when I don` t have any inspiration. I clean my studio, arrange everything nicely and anatomically. Then I update all my software. The process of thinking of all the differnt plugs I have, and the updating, and the instaling puts me in touch with my equipment and in no time ill be trying out musical ideas, combining this effect plug I just updated with that sound, doing this and that and without noticing I got a 16 bar loop going consiting of 7,8 layers: The basis of a song! And from there its all downhill

I know this sounds very boring, but for me this gets me working inside the studio without needing creativity. And once I am working in the studio, the creativity comes by itself. Its like a vicious cycle, but in a good way!

And the very best creativity starter: Physical exercise! I play a lot of Tennis, and after two hours of Tennis with endorphins flowing through my body im always super productive. Nothing beats that natural body high But the gym works as well, or a long hike or run, anyything that gets the heart rate will foster creativity.

Best way for me, is to play some beautiful chords from pink floyd on my old cs1x
But really, I have also lot of unfinished tracks, I placed them in one folder, and called him ALBUM.
Their is 10 tracks, 8 progressive and 2 chill tracks.
So I opening everytime other project and working on. If I have no drive to make music, so I playing pink floyd, its cool try once.
