Do we have to define it in "either ... or ..." terms?
Here is a story, an atmosphere, no tzwik-tzwak at all, some undetermined (~30?) BPM - and it's still dark. AND psychedelic, IMHO.





I am resisting the temptation to cross-post it into the "dark ambient" thread.

Nice song. Would fit very good as a soundtrack for a television show about space or discovering new planets.
