Okay, what a togh question, but I was wondering if anybody can help me out. In the non-coastal regions of South Africa, the Trance (and especially psychedelic trance) subcultures are relatively small and underground, and the music is very hard to obtain.

Some of my favourite stuff includes:
Dark Soho
Infected Mushroom
Talamasca
Cosma
Pixel

But... can somebody please tell me where to start? As an aspiring DJ I wish to expand the scene here. Already, I listen to and play a lot of EBM, Dark trance, hardstyle and Synthpop. But Psy is what I wish to learn about. Who are the best artists to start off with?

Also, where can I obtain this music on vinyl?

You came to the right place mate. This forum is "crawling" with DJs and artists and everybody is friendly of course.

I suggest you start by "investigating" few artists from each style so that you understand what "clicks" together in a DJ set.

I reccomend you the following dudes:

Psysex
Penta
Kindzadza
Tristan
Eskimo
Shift
Paranoise & Claw
Deviant Species
Freq
Neelix           the sky was pink

Hujaboy's last album, Party Animals (T.I.P) is a bomb, so yeah, u should definitely check it out. also Entropy and Electrypnose wiil be a good start for the darker realms of psytrance as well (ofcourse) as Penta.
and if u want to hear something similar, yet darker, to Psysex' early releases, try also Mubali. this guy has released a very good and interesting album on Trishula a few months ago; his latest release, Mechanophobia, somehow reminds me of Bionic Bong- a very good thing!

All artists that were mentioned are really killa artists that make psytrance.
So i would just add some more killer artists such as:
Highko
Cosmo
Naked Tourist
Metalaxis
Megalopsy
Audiopathic
Para Halu
And i'd bet i've forgot a lot more           http://www.guineapigs.tv/

Sirius Isness
CPU
Bliss
Bio Genesis
Mekkanikka
