I learned using my modulars. http://www.doepfer.com has very good resources to learn what modules do and how to create patches.
But modular synthesisers are the most user friendly synths, imo. You simply take the output of a module into the input of another module, ending up in the VCA that is controlled by an envelope (that in turn is controlled by a gate signal).

what synths do you use?
these guys suggested reaktor and vaz modular, which is fine, but modular synthesis can be very difficult to use if you are not really into it, and those two synths cost quite a lot.
Try downloading a freeware suite (modular synth and a par of fx, all vst) from www.karmafx.de, and start analyzing the presets, there are some really good ones.

U are lucky if u got an a100 system with some parts
If i had more money...
@sd6 u can also start learning modular stuff with synthedit. U get shareware full for free and there is a huge community with lot of help and tutorials. And if u come up with a nice synth u can compile it to vst standart and share it with us or even sell it

I guess I'm in luck then. I have an A-100 system with an Analog Systems one in a 12U rack filled with modules.

Modular synthesis could be very scary because of all the million wires and the little boxes you see at start LOL
synthedit is the easiest one to start with because it automatically creates an in port in the module/macro/whatever according to the source of the wire... Reaktor doesn't do that so you must create it and it could be a bitch at start. But Reaktor is by far more advanced in algorythms and other very very very useful modules.
I think it also sounds better.
But if you really want Modular POWER get a Nord Modular that thing rocks and it also has a nice and non complicated program.
