I wanted to start DJing, but I got no money for cdj's and a mixer.
So I used what I can:

http://www.psygarden.be/~mike/dj2.jpg
Basically, I use Traktor and control it using my cs1x.
Put stickers on the keys for each button in Traktor, knobs for the eqs and modulation for cross-fader.
Using the multipile outputs of my Delta 66 for speakers and monitor headphones.
If anyone needs the settings file for traktor or any questions, lemme know.

i'am use same config
but i have oxygen8 with 8 rotary knobs
and use one slider for x-fader, pitch bend for
pitch and mod wheel for cue-pgm (mix beetween phones and master)
And i like it!!
but about keys...
eraly i use oxygen keys too for rewind and play.
But i think there might be better to use computer keyboard for this purpose
"space" for cue-pause in active deck, arrows
for rewind in active deck and tilda (~) for beatmatching
This works fine! |

i'am especially like to use pitch bend!!!
It's great to slow down tempo before initial crash
And all what you need - realease pitch bend after that!
oOr slowly down tempo, wait 1-2 sec and release pitch bend!
Traktor - GREAT!

If you want to get cdjs, especially pioneer's cdjs. Its best to get it at South East Asia (where i am living in). I am getting a pair of cdj 100's this june.
Its gona cost US$313 for one. And there will be a Grand Sale in Singapore during that period, the price might get lower. But nice work Mike hehe |

I face the same problem..short on $$$
But few days ago I got a DJing toy - Mixman DM2 (www.mixman.com) from ebay for $28...
As I have no experience in DJing, I think it might be a nice and inexpensive toy for beginners.
As soon my friend (DJ) will test it, I'll get back to u with a feedback.

http://www.psygarden.be/~mike/cs1x.tks (traktor 2)
that's the settings file.
"Buttons" should work for any 5 octave control keyboard.
knobs, well you gotta work on that
C - pitch up
D - pitch down
C# - rewind
D# - forward
E - frame/bend up
F - frame/bend down
G - cue set
A - cue play
B - cue pause
F# - low kill
G# - mid kill
A# - high kill
C - pitch reset
D - seek start
E - monitor cue on/off
1st &2nd octave on the keyboard for deck A, 4th & 5th for deck B.
