ok guys , pls help me with this ....

while i am equing kick , bassline ...

i use parametric eq as all of u must be using ...

then i increase 'q' to very high , 'gain' to very high , and then dial in the frequency where it resonates the most in the sound ....

then i lower q and gain to taste and this is how i eq ....

but this trick only works for me when i want to raise level of frequency .... [ additive eq ]

for example if i want to cut some certain frequencies of the bassline , how do i dial in on them ??? [ subtractive eq]

any tips on subtractive equing ????

and i cant keep guessing frequencies all the time ...

pls hlp me with this ...

bye and take care ..           http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CTPJuMSwzUQ

Same way as you described...but the opposite way...
first boost it to find the "anoying" frequency...and then take it out...

Hope this helped ya...

keep guessing i say =D one day your guess will be right =P

PsYx told you, thats the way to go...

if you are EQ:ing the kickdrum and baseline together use a spectrum analyser to get a ruff picture where each of them lives, if they colide change one of them, or if they almost fit cut the baseline where the kick lives the most and cut the kick where the baseline lives the most..

if it sounds dull find new sounds that fit better from the begining... if you really like the kick keep it and work on another baseline or maybe it just needs to come up or down some semitones to fit nice... now you will get real problems if you got some leads and stuff in that root note, you have to transpose those... hehe, maybe then its best to just change the kick..

i say experiment... thats the only way m8...

gtn - first of all best eqing is cutting freqs and not boosting them.

try to avoid boosting freqs until it very needed.try to use better samples or vstis.

about kick n bass try to group them and work on them both.

cheers

Best rule is: Do what sounds good to you.

If you boost and it sounds good, well why not?

Use a good eq and boosting is no problem            Signature

I don't know what you want to archieve when you make sound, i want to get nice sounding sound

There are two kinds of using a eq:

1. for fine tuning your sound
2. the heavy changing, creating, creative way

If you want to fine tune your sound, you are right, in most cases, it is better to cut freq.

If you want to use your eq in a creative way (which is a huge part in my way of producing) there are no rules. You can get nice sounds by boosting, adding sound. The sound of your eq as creative part of your music.

Actually im with EYB on this one...

Do what ever sounds good, if that means boost, do it! but generally its best to aviod boosts, maybe coz the sound will interfere with others and take more frequency bandwith in that area.. leaving less space for other sounds that want to be in that area aswell...

but a mild root note boost is sometimes very pleasant for the baseline..

just with the bass and kick make hi pass filter and it will cut your problomatic feqs. the bass and kick can be cut in the 40-60-80 hz.now you don't get it so much as you say because it fit more to regular pa and not to your monitirs that can get this low freqs no problem most of the time.
as te_nTE wrote you better to cut freq. than to boost them.
your monitors most of the cases will get it great -but in your car and regular audio system it will crash the low/sub area and you will hear drop in the sound-TRY it for know that-you will hear it.
you can allways Boost freq. but you need to know how to do it right-that depend if you learn/work in sound.
about q. of freq. you just make small bell and cut freq. as you need
wish you my best
