Hi , well , I know this probably have been asked in some kind of version before , but here i go again
How do you amongst yourselfs define when your music is ready to go a step further ( and maybe send in to a label )
me myself Im always pressing myself to the limit , and i have been close sending a demo cd to some labels , but when i burned it down , i suddenly became unshure , and i threw it out , i love constructive critics on my music, but im afraid i leave a bad impression .
Further more , there are alot of different influences , that make it a bit harder ,
First of all , ( yourself as critic, maybe the worst , maybe the best
second , what others think ( friends girlfriend and so on ) ... but here im always sceptic , because they wouldnt be totally honest with me i think , always trying to smoothen things out
thirdly ( there is advise from semi or profs
and this can really stur up some thoughts , cuz maybe u respect these persons opinion a bit more ,so when they think its bad or they cant see the good things that u urself see , u also get a bit uncertain ...
Puhhhhhhhhh ... alot of thoughts ... well ..
what im asking or saying ... is that i sometimes feel that this life is a bit hard .Feel aloneness
Its not like some course in a school , u dont have a teacher looking over u all the time , helping , and supporting , all u have is the written words of others like u in forums like this for instance ..Where do u guys and girls find the confidence , and the energy to keep on , when its dark ?
Ohh and what kind of measures u use , when deciding if ur music is good enough sending to labels ...
Hope i made myself understandable

Find some friends who also make music and try to find as much points of criticism about eachothers tracks as you can. Be totally honest and maybe even exaggerate a little bit. Like: 'i hate your bassline, it goes on an on and on, it bores me till death, man why don't you change it a little bit' or: 'you're constanly using that stupid sound, it's annoying, try something different, please'. First promise eachother that you won't fight and that it's just for the good. A little destructive criticism can be very productive, and it's better to be honest than to be nice when you're givin critique to improve something. |

I define music ready when i hear it and enjoy every part of it but it won't happen soon because i like to critisize me and others ..........
so real point is to know the level of over do something ....................... keep searching it up to you only .............because every thing can be done more perfect but sometimes we destroy when trying to increase quality .............
ok
step one
if all mixed well tegether and i do couple of mixes
step two
if the main thing in track is the main and not secondary
step three
somthing spetial to make ppl remember it , creative fx never done before melody or someshit like that
step four
if it sounds close to commercial cd in your music kind by naturality of sound design and level of mixing
step five
brake from listening to track start new one and back to listen it in 1-2 week ............
all these steps better for me if some other person give his option about my art..............
good luck all up to you only ............. |

most is already done but:
-listen to your track and compare it with recent releases... if it's beign played in a party the sound must not differ in eq, level, dynamics, etc... at least not enough for the dancers to notice that something strange happened...
-let it rest... forget about it... 6-8 days later go back to it and try to look for places to improve... |

Sektor and Psycho are right on about taking a break and then going back and listening to it.
Ultimately you are the best judge - does this music reflect what is in your heart, is it a clear picture of your 'ideal' song?
Give it a break and go back and listen, your first reaction will be the right one. |

I say... when u know it's for a label, u just know.
of course u need many ppl to hear ur music first and tell you that untill u realize urself.

mike maguire once advised me that the only important thing are the ideas...
the problem about it is that lots of contemporary audiophile high-tech music (kin dza dza, psykovsky, hux flux etc.) build on good sound quality. good sound is more or less the basis where everything gets started. so, if your sound is not clear and powerful, you won´t be able to go further...
that´s a problem of recursivity (what´s first: chicken or egg?)

Not all released music is absolutly clear.
Get a good mix, but stay dirty

There are a lot of ways to check if your music is good for a label. For example:
Fist, ask some friends for an honest opinion.
Second, you can upload your tracks and read
our opinions about them.
The third and my faorite way is to play your
music in several parties and look with your
own eyes to the croud's reaction!!!
And like Trip- said:
"when u know it's for a label, u just know"
Peace...

Or u send it to a label and ask them for a review even if they don't want to release it.
Then u know whats going on with your stuff, but better send to more than 1 label.
Or u open ur own label, then u can decide when it is time to release your stuff, and the stuff of people u know.
hey thats a good idea, maybe i get my own label, should be no problem
Running a label is not hard is fun, almost everyone can do it, as long u havn't not the goal to get billionar
peace

just one thing though
its kinda ignorant to say
"running a label is not hard, anyone can do it etc etc"
its like saying: "making music is not hard, anyone can do it"
I mean, sure, anyone CAN make music or even start a label, but will it be any good?
Just a thought.

I understand what you meen
nothing is easy if to be done right .
And me myself ... Im exploding with ideas ... i think i have had the inspiration to produce a new and often original track 2 times a day ...always having some new melody or groove in my head .. but to get i out on paper/sequencer , is another thing ...Here is the place when i start thinking if the quality is good enough ( and so on ) if the bass is in the right freq area ...
But who am i kidding ... i need some better gear to get a answer for this ....
And for the first time ... this saturday ... i think some of my tracks will be mixed in a set for a party ... and im really looking forward seeing the reaction ... ( expecting everyone to go home
Once again .. thanx for the kind advise ...
