As someone mentioned it is a deriveration from Bom, which is used before lighting a chillum, Bom Shiva, Bom Bolenath. The Muslims in India (may also be from Afghanistan) say Aalek ! Younger trance generations changed the word into boom from bom !

It came from a guy who was a psytrance artist and he often used fireworks which sounded like "boom" when they exploded,he used to throw fireworks at festivals and outdoors parties and since then people say boom in remembrance of him  |
