Cant believe no one mentioned audio technica's ath m50's, fantastic sounding headphones, but most importantly very accurate low end.

I got akg k271 Studio Headphones. Very good for the details, high and mid, not good for low end though. |

I just bought the KRK KNS-8400 headphones and they are great. Not very bass heavy but quality sound. Cost me $150.00 |

Several months ago got AKG K-702
Very detailed, balanced and transparent sound. Me like
I make music almost in headphones only, only making a short check on monitors after the track is finished. After that new headphones, in recent tracks i didn't make any changes while listening on monitors.

any decent headphones will do, all of them have pros an cons, some of the expensive ones have more pros than cons, but still... you just have to get to know the sound of your headphones really well, comparing the sound they have with monitors, other headphones, crappy speakers, your car speakers etc etc, compare them with anything you can, and youll find out what they lack and what they boost, once you know that, its a lot easier to look forward in your mix and solve some potential problems.
its really hard to get a perfect mix just with headphones but you can get pretty close once you know what they offer.
i suggest open headphones instead of closed since they have more space to disperse de sound, and your ears will thank you, but if your mixing in a noissy environment then go for closed headphones

these are the best picks for me :
DENON AH-D2000 - closed
Sennheiser HD 650 - opened
also KRKs, Audio Technicas Athm50, Shure 840/940, Beyers dt 880 (or cheaper opened 990), Akg 701 (even 271 and 240 are good sounding)
i have ultrasones pro 750, but didn`t try to mix on them yet ... but i`m used to akg 240 anyways
keep in mind that on most of them you will need and hedphone preamp to drive them
sennheiser hd 25 are absolutely horrible for anything but monitoring for me

with drive you mean it wont have much volume? or the frequncies response won t be the same?
i m wondering cause in my dt880 250 ohms i had no volume problem using it with rme echo and metric halo but the lowend is not very infront even if it go low maybe with a amp it would help? |
