Grettings everyone,
Bascally I currently own a Dell P4 256 MB Ram Inspiron 2650(notebook), 40 GB HD, with Sigma Tel Audio card.
I also acuired a copy of Reason 2.5.
Now I am planning on buying a midi controller. I was looking at
M Audio-Radium 49 K
Edirol PCR - 49 K
In addition I am also planning to purchase
M AudioPhile - USB Interface. Sound Card
Please, I would love to know what you guys think. Those that already own this stuff, I would be greatful if you reply. Any other feedback, advice, or suggestions is more than welcome.
Shout outs to all that help make this forum a fascinating place to share important information.
Peace and Respect

p.s just to let you know I plan on using this equipment for all kinds of basic audio production (not restricted to trance or electronica) this is just to help me get started...

I've got the Audiphile (not the usb though) and it never let me down (apart from only having 2ins and 2 outs, so im upgrading to another one when i have the chance...$ i need more ins for sinths and outs for mixer...)
I would maybe reccomend for you to get 256mb more of ram, its quite cheap and makes quite a diference (well not soo cheap, since its a notebook, but i think its worth it)
what about cubase or logic?you want to do it all in reason? u can, but i would recommend u to get cubase or logic (my choice goes for logic...)maybe not right now, but I would reccomend it when u start getting more serious into it
Also, reference monitors (studio speakers) is very important
hope this helps a bit...

Thanks for the quick reply buddy.
Basically this is the first step.
And as you said the audiophile never let you down and that is something very important for beginers.
Reason I think is also good for now, the eventual progression is likely to be getting cubase and rewiring it to reason. Unless of course I win the lottery then I'll prbably switch to mac and also get logic. ;-)
Good monitors seem to expensive for now so I will use my headphones initially.
Thanks so much once again wish you the best in life and music.
Anyone else? The midi controller is a bigger dillema, for me, so it would be great if someone could say something on that.
Peace out

yeah, man. Controller keyboard is quite important bacause itīs the "direct connection" between the computer and the creating part of your brain. That is great, BUT all is for nothing if you donīt receive a high quality sound without boosting any frequencies from your speakers or your headphones. If I were you, I wouldnīt buy controller but the monitors. You can replace the keyboard with the piano roll but itīs impossible replacing the bad sound you are getting from your headphones. Well, I donīt know witch pair are you using but thatīs not the way, man.
Good luck!!!!! |

Yes my friend!!!!
Your are absolutely right sound monitors are very important at the end of the day. That is why I plan to wait until I have enough $$$ to buy a solid pair.
However, I'm sick of the damn piano roll and I need to start pressing some keys and tweaking some knobs so please people!!!!
I need more feedback!!!!
Tell me what you think is the best midi controller under $200-250??????
Big Respect to all!

given what the guy said, u cant do it all in reason. it still lacks a MIDI output or any audio recording facilities which makes it practically useless as the central sequencer/DAW for general audio production.
if you're going to be recording singers, producing rock bands, scoring to video, composing for orchestras or whatever... then reason will fall short.
so, i agree - cubase or logic is a much more suitable choice for general purpose work, as their additional power and flexibility will far better adapt to making stuff other than trance and dance music than reason will.
just to balance it out, my choice would be cubase sx, but either are fine , powerful tools.
