The Japanese Dat mafia was a term coined by DJ Sharaku or Hiro way back in 1999/2000. We kind of used to have a little club (even had membership cards!!) and we used to go round to each others houses in Tokyo and spend all day with our Sony D8's and make copies of all the unreleased stuff we had. I rememeber Hiro had this huge wooden box with shit loads of dats in it and I used to to love it beacuse he had shit loads of unreleased dats in it. Because he promoted several gigs back then he had lots of good contacts and as a result I gained a nice collection of music. I still have all those dats (probably a couple of hundred or so) and lots of those tracks are still unreleased today. I love putting them on and playing them because they still sound so rich and warm! And I still have my membership card aswell! Those really were the days and the quality of the music was great too!
