Going 2 a party...
More familier tunes or prehaps new ones?
I thought about this question while reading another post in the forum.
What should a Dj think while playing? should he play more familier stuff or not?

I think a mixture. When you hear track at too many parties you get fed up with it a bit I think, and it can take away from a good track. DJ's have to walk a fine line between playing stuff the crowd knows and loves and getting them into new and more obscure music.
Totally agree with you Ananda, there's nothing like hearing your favourite track at a party when you're 'in the zone'. It really takes you to another level.

it's like those bloody MTV songs...it's like, you hear it on MTV sometimes , and then you get into your car and hear it there, and then you walk into some stores and hear it there, and its a huge brainwash till you start singing it in the shower.
I don't want it to happen to trance

the classic traks are classic for a reason. ananda took the words out of my mouth but its also cool to hear something new of course. I think one should play what feels right at the time, irrelevant of age.

I play 99% new tracks because I want to expose people to fresh, new, different sounds from what they're used to, make them explore places other than the familiar old dimensions, and go where no man has gone before.
But yes, like the occasional Star Trek rerun, once in a while an old track is nice.

you can for sure use some releases to get the people going
to rock them
get the wibe
but
a four unreleased to maybe one released is ok
bottom line once you create a wibe
once your story starts making sense
it is a story
and you ve got them
you can take them anywhere you want

i like hearing new stuff at parties, but unfortunately, most of the new stuff don't come anywhere close to the classics. so giving us a classic sometime at a party would be really nice, it usually would make me explode

A mixture of new and old tracks is perfect for me... Luckily psy-trance ages much better than "commercial" dance-stuff...

Like it has been said , dj has to play stuff the crowd knows and loves and get them into new and freshing stuff.
Personalley , as one who listen to this music much time a day , i hope from the dj to expose me to new and different sutff i havn't heard before.
On the other side , it's delight to hear your favourites tunes on the dancefloor . |

What else is new... DJs play for other DJs.
All I want to hear at a party is a balance, and I never hear that... so if I had to pick, I'd rather hear classics. Not stuff that is a year or two old... I mean, lets reach back to '95 already... timeless music never fades away.

yeah but the thing is that there are like 100 tracks released every single day. if you only play the latest there will never be new classics. how many tracks do you recall from 2001?
