well we and spain are the countries in europe that are more next 2 the atlantic sea.Portugal on leftiest side bathed by atlantic, and on the south,mediterranean sea.and on north and right side we only make border with spain.
spain makes border with france,and us, and it is also bathed by atlantic on the north, and mediterranean on south.but our spanish friends can give 100% on thix

a3k : Portugal is not bathed by mediterrain sea... look at the foto Danilovix posted.
mediterrain sea starts only after gibraltar cape and gibraltar is already in spain!!

Sorry mate, you'll find Gibraltar is NOT part of Spain (though it IS in Iberia) !!!!

The ancient greeks called our land Iberia.
There are few hyphotesis about the meaning of the word: some people say that Iberia comes from Hipperia, land of horses in greek; other people say that the root of the word is Iber, river in latin, and there are three rivers in Spain (Tinto River and Odiel in Huelva and the other is called now Ebro, one of the most important in our country, in the northeast, named by Roman) that was called Hiberus, maybe before roman conquist. There are another people who say that Iberia comes from an interpretation of one of the 12 works of Heracles : taking the golden apples from Hesperides garden. Melon in greek maybe sheep or apple, and there were some sheeps whose hair is like gold, and the Hesperides garden has been localizated by some authors around Huelva (named before, in Andalucia, south of Spain) because of his gold and different minerals.
So the greeks called Iberius to the Tinto River and Huelva Iberia, because of its gold. This were the first part of the land they knew, so after this they called all the land Iberia.
You can read in the web many things about this, because my english is poor.
Of course, Iberia is the Peninsula. |

Iberia is simply the best place to live.
Is a wonderful land between Atalntic Ocean and Mediterranian sea...
the Lands are mostly virgins with great woods and other kind of natural places....

Sorry to you but Gibraltrar was always in Spain. Another thing is that english ocuppied it by force (the conflict remains until today). Someone could say the same with "Melilla" and "Ceuta" in Morocco but when Spain founded these cities in Africa, Morocco didn't exist as a country. But Spain already existed when english ocuppied Gibraltar. |
