I wonder how many people's inspirations and drives to create more and better art would be restricted, if the only ones who used expensive software synths were the ones paying? Some people have more important things in their lives than software to pay for, but at the same time artistic drive and a need to unleash that drive. Should they be denied the tools that allow them to let out what otherwise would be bottled up? Should they have to wait til some unknown future when they can afford the tools? What if the drive is gone? what if they've lost all urge to create? Why does being wealthy enough to pay hundreds, maybe thousands, on music software equate to entitlement? I understand supporting those who put time and effort, and money, into these things. Not everyone who has the real artistic drive is wealthy enough to afford them. And Im not just talking about those who spend all their money on drugs.

Should artists be denied the ability to create art, simply by virtue of lack of liquid assets?

(I know theres plenty of great free vsts out there. One could make music with only freeware, if one wanted. I know i have. The sound quality lacks in many cases, though, and that isnt so good when you want to perhaps shop your demo around. Pro VSTi's add a polish that gets attention, maybe if that attention is a label, and that track gets released, that artist/thief could then pay for the software. In an ideal world where labels paid ASAP.)

But I get offtopic...

I remembered some more;

Microgram m1
reFX Claw
INTRO
Steinberg Neon

Also check kvraudio.com and their contest winners, lots of goodies there

I think my need for speed is restricted when I don't steal a formule-1 racecar.

j/k and I see your point. Besides, when I steal a car, someone else has a car less. When I download a vsti, no one else is in lack of a vsti. It is because I was able to 'try before buy' vsti's that encouraged me enough to keep on making music and discovering sounds that I actually bought some vsti's...

on topic:

It's simple for me. I know what tools I want to use, but I don't have the money for them. I download them and use them, and when I do have the money...I will buy them. If I purchased all the software I use, I would be out multiple thousands of dollars that I just do not have.

Fuck being restricted by money when it comes to making music. Sorry, but the vast, vast majority of freeware pales in comparison to professionally made tools and I don't feel like wasting my time learning something when I could be learning something that's much more powerful.            If you want to make an apple pie from scratch...you must first invent the universe

There are enough of great for free plug ins imo. This is even way more freakier to find something decent than use the same shit for millionth time like anybody else on torrents.
But each to his own.
What I'm missing on my mac is Speakafreakers tools or Glitch, decent stuff imo.

Definitely check that Pro-C compressor.
Wonderful display of what the compressor actually does, and it's sidechain function is also very useful.

Check these vids:
