Thanx for the many replies.
As Pom suggested i'm more of a musician,producer....don't want to go the rollercoaster route of spending tons of cash to make my room acoustic worhty..
More into the knobs and flashing leds kind of thing ;-) Tweaking the hell out of it..

Although i need a better pair of monitors..those behringer sux big time into the lower range. (i know it also got to do with room treatment, like phase cancellation and stuff).
What are quality monitors, which give me an overall quality sound? (low, mid, high.)
Why dynaudio? are there more quality monitors out there?

also some suggestions for great synths complementing the virus ti?

thx for the replies ;-)
access virus ti,waldorf blofeld, korg microkorg xl, roland sh-201, clavia nord wave, korg kaoss pad 3, DSI Tempest, hohner something...

I would spend my money on a pair of Dyna BM15A, acoustics and a fast computer.
If you wanna save up for a synth or two, save money and get a used pair of Mackie mk1 HR 824s, but defo sort out a proper room to mix in.
I would not spend any money on DSP cards. Computer are developing fast enough.

Peace out.

with 5000 euros you can all this, monitors (2000), treatment (1000) and have around 2000 euro left for synths ,you can cut the budget on threatment as it can be done progressively every months a little more it cost nothing...and agree forget dsp cards though i dont know the sonic core.

spend your mony wisely , so you know you buy things that dont need to be upgraded later or you could check second hand market too but maybe not for monitors.

First: room treatment (but only if your room needs it! [which it almost certainly does])

Second: http://www.uaudio.com/uad-plug-ins/uad-2-quad/uad-2-quad-omni-6.html

it will give you a great interface both for the desktop and laptop, with great functionality. top-notch dsp synths, fx, mixing and routing with a unique quality. and best of all one of the best digital modulars if not the best.

why would you recommend a hw synth, but say no to a dsp card? a hw synth is basically a dsp card with knobs. a synth can do one thing, be whatever it was designed to be.

a high-end card like a soniccore or uad can be many many things, at the highest of quality.

so people go about raving mad about a virus or a nord modular, and don't realize this nice "qaulity" is the dsp, and yes, it sounds in many cases better than native and provides high end tools.

yeah for sonic core for the synths it make sense, but the new uad were already underpowered even the day it was released.
it s a trap for money i know some guys who have spent fortune in uad (and creamware)and regret it big times now cause of very good native plugins and they would have rather spend the money on the real hardware after using some.
imo money is better spent on 1, 2 or 3 amazing piece of hardware than in 4000/5000$ dollars of plugins , it s the opinion of some friends that have most of the uad plugins and some good hardware too.

The Ti has a soundcard in it so that you dont need. Get a fast pc and good monitors. and a nice midi-controller. Dave Smith hardware drumbox? the Ti can make all sounds and together with soft synths you dont need much more. Dont buy hardware compressor or Eq i would say, unless its topnotch like distressor or so and you want it for its character.           http://soundcloud.com/vipal

i donno i couldn't love a piece of kit more than i love my CW cards. worth it just for the modular, imo.

Cause a DSP card's lifetime depends on were computer developers decide to go next when they are thinking about the buss access, parallel ports, usb, firewire 400/800/thunderbolt, and then if there will be drivers for new OS...today's standards can change to a point where you'd have to keep an old machine running just to use your favourite DSP card. Not to mention that CPU development is almost exponential.

You can get a real analog modular for the cash, a basic Doepfer system, and built it with time, according to your needs. We were 4 audio tech students in house in Cambridge, in 2003 and one of them had the Creamware modular running on his PC, the same time I had just finished building my 12U Dopefer/A.Sys analog modular. It pisses over the CW in terms of raw sound, from a great hight.
Although I started with an analog modular, I would not advise going that way, unless you are experienced with synths, their modules and how they work.

Peace out.

whatever dude, don't agree with you at all. maybe your friend didn't know how to work it.

maybe your analog pisses on cw, but the cw pisses on your vst

have a good one.

Maybe you have a special technique on trigger an oscillator and sweeping the filter, please share it with me so I'll know how to "work" synths
